Women Honoring Women - America's True 'Hidden Figures' Honoree
I attended the Women Honoring Women event in Huntsville, AL. It's a fabulous night of recognizing women from all walks of life and their accomplishments - there are public officials, entrepreneurs, volunteers...just all around amazing women!
One of my favorite speakers was Dr. Shelia Nash-Stevenson. She works for NASA/Marshall Space Flight Center and is not just a pioneer for women, but especially African-American women. Shelia talked about being very poor growing up in rural Alabama and picking cotton in the fields to earn money...that's when she realized she wanted to get an education! She got her BS degree at age 19, her Master's degree at age 22, and her PhD in Physics in 1994 - becoming the first African-American female in the nation to achieve this recognition.
What an inspiring evening being around such successful women!
