Rape: A Self defense against the Assault

Rape, also known as sexual assault, have been one of the topmost crime over centuries, across various geographical location and it has been said to vary in every region, but still generalized as Rape. In Roman law, it is called the crime of Assault, and have been taking different shapes and definition through laws and time.

Self-defense, on the other hand, which are countermeasures to avoid been harmed, has been taught in many developed and rape prone countries, with martial art as one of the major instrument of delivery to achieve this purpose.

The purpose of this article is to help the vulnerable genders and raise the consciousness to help all who have victims or prone communities.

The Statistics

-Every day, about 500 cases of crime against women are reported and 10% of it are sexual assault related.

-In India, every 34 minutes, a woman is raped; every 26 minutes, a woman is molested; every 42 minutes, an incident of sexual harassment takes place; every 93 minutes, a woman is killed.

So, the tendency of falling victim can be judged. But, through this article, I will be teaching on some defensive system to guide oneself, but the best is still in finding programs that specializes in fighting against sexual assault or go learn a martial art.

The Techniques

This techniques are the easiest and most effective moves for our vulnerable genders, women.

  • First, memorize the vulnerable areas of the attacker. No matter how big or heavy the attacker is, he will always have a weak point. The general point of vulnerability are the eyes, nose, throat, chest, knees and private regions. Attack the weak area can grant you an advantage to flee.

  • Using the simplest and most effective moves, like separating the fingers, can cause any giant to cry in pain and fall on their knees. This is by grabbing the little and ring finger with one hand and the index and middle finger with the other hand like in form of separation, bending the wrist forward. Another way is by hitting his collar bone (Adam’s apple) with your finger or fist. This is enough to destabilize the attacker for you to flee or call for help.

  • The weakest point for a male attacker is the groin (private region). A hit on that area can totally destabilize or even paralyses an attacker. Trying a fist might hinder you from getting a proper hit, so a kick is advised. All self-defense training always advise to aim for this area.

  • Our previous techniques have been on the use of the hand, but what if you were held such that you can’t move your hands. Use that same hand to give enough space around your pelvis area, then use your head to hit the attacker on the nose (as it has been stated as one of the vulnerable areas of the body of human), by doing this, the attacker will move back a little, thereby giving you more chance to hit. You can now use your knee against his groin which will now destabilize him.

  • Most of the time, the attacker holds the victim’s hand firm such that the victim won’t be able to escape. There is a rule called the ‘rule of the thumb’ which enables you to rotate your wrist toward the thumb, by the time your hand is under the attacker’s, you pull your arm as strongly as you can.

  • One of the big trick of attackers is to come from behind and this is because it is the easiest way to hold a victim’s arm not to move. To set your set free, first hit the attacker with the back of your head, which is most likely going to meet his nose (a weak point), then bend over to grab one of his legs (the right leg preferably),and pull it over in between your leg. This makes him lose balance, total balance.

  • Apart from the use of the head and hands, another attack mechanism is the elbow. If you were attacked in a position that allows you to make use of the elbow effectively, like from the side, use the elbow hit, positioning your hit around the jaw or nose of the attacker. Now, the attacker will take few steps back, giving you the chance to hit the belly with the same elbow. The hit will destabilize the attacker.

  • Most aggressive attackers always like to make use of the wall, as it is believe to give a total arrest to their victim. But if you find yourself in such a situation, the following step should save you from his grip, depending on whatever position he holds you to. If he has you on hold with his two arms up, then you can hit the armpit, then use other attack force like the groin to flee. If it just one arm up, you can either hit the chest, belly or neck with a fist, but the best is to use your head against his jaw or nose.

Conclusion

If you were to find yourself in such a threatening situation, always remember that even the biggest have a weak (vulnerable) point. Use your strongest point against their weak points.

Your strong point are your head, hands (fist), elbow, knee and leg. So you will always have multiple attack mechanism if one or two were held back by the attack.
