Woman Killed In Wrong-Way Crash On I-495 In Hopkinton

HOPKINTON (CBS) – One person was killed on Interstate 495 in Hopkinton during a head-on crash involving a wrong-way driver.

The crash was reported just before 6 a.m. on I-495 about two miles prior to the Mass Pike.As a result of the crash, I-495 North was temporarily shut down in the area. Only the breakdown lane was getting by for a brief time.All lanes reopened just after 8 a.m.

Major delays resulted from the crash.Massachusetts State Police said the woman driving a 2015 Nissan Altima south on the northbound side of the road died after slammed head-on into a 2006 Honda pickup truck.

The man driving on the correct side of the road was seriously injured.

He was taken to UMass Hospital.

It is not yet clear why the woman was driving the wrong way on the busy road.
