INTO THE WOODS It Was Supposed To Be A Beautiful Night

They had been dating for 6 months but never really got to spend any quality time together. Joan waited tables at a local diner where she pulls a double shift just to make ends meet. Rick's real estate business on the other hand had been doing very well but that meant traveling a lot. Rick brought up the idea of the trip and it was welcomed by Joan. She needed a break, she deserved it. It was a stressful 6-hour trip but they knew it will be worth it. They would finally be together, just the two of them in the calmness of the woods for 3 days. They got to the camp late in the evening, the room was dusty and reeked of old furniture. Rick took their bags to the room upstairs and they both spent the next hour tidying up the house. They were finally done and needed to rest. Joan suggested they lay on the patio to watch the stars. The night was well lit being a full moon, it was the perfect night. Rick spread a thick blanket on the floor where they lay side by side admiring the wonders of nature.
Rick leaned over to Joan and planted a soft kiss on her lips. Joan kissed him back passionately, she didn’t want to take things slow anymore. They had been going slow for 6 months and she was done with that. She wanted him right there and then. She had her hands at the bottom of his shirt about to yank it off when they heard a loud growl. They both stopped and looked into the forest in the direction the sound came from. It was probably just a wolf in the woods. Joan mentioned that she had a bad feeling about it, so they headed inside. It was a little difficult to continue where they left off not just because of the scare the growl had given them but the fact that it seemed to be getting nearer and louder. Rick went to the basement to get the old camp gun. It hadn’t been used in a while but hopefully it would still work if the need arose. He loaded the gun with some cartridges he had found in a box beside the gun.
He went back up to meet Joan. Maybe this trip wasn’t such a good idea after all said frightened Joan. Rick assured her everything was going to be alright, it was just a lost wolf. Suddenly, there was a loud bang at the door. The creature had run into the front door and was scratching at it with what sounded like very big claws. The doors weren't as strong as they used to be and was starting to give as the beast kept pounding and scratching it.
Rick aimed for the door and shot at it. The gun let out a loud boom, the room smelled of smoke and gun powder. They heard a wince at the door and a loud thud. They tried to move closer and could hear the creature whimpering. Rick was confident he hit the wolf and it had been severely wounded if not dead. He opened the door slightly and could not believe what he saw. Is it dead? Asked Joan. How was Rick supposed to explain that he hadn’t hit a wolf or more importantly that a dead man lay naked in a pool of blood at the door.
