How to Write a Product Press Release
Promoting a brand new product with a press release can be highly effective. Follow these simple steps to create your highly effective product press release.
Steps
Create a list of benefits. Your new product may have multiple features. But bear in mind that features are not benefits. For example, having a retractable handle on your teapot is a feature. You will need to translate that into a benefit for your reader. In this case, the benefit may manifest in this manner - having a retractable handle means that the teapot looks nicer, and stores away easily.
Pick the most attention-catching benefit. Out of your list of benefits, pick one that you believe is most likely to grab the attention of your reader.
Craft your press release headline. From your primary benefit, craft your PR headline. You may need to spend more time on the headline. It's probably the most important aspect of your press release. If you write a poor headline, your press release is not going to be effective. Web readers tend to scan news headlines. So if yours don't grab their attention right away, you've just lost the chance to acquire a potential customer.
Write a summary of the press release. The press release should contain a brief summary of just two to three sentences. The summary should capture the entire essence of the PR article.
Keep your PR body short and concise. For web releases, there is no need to write a lengthy PR. Keep your release to between 300 to 500 words.
Write something about your Company. Promoting your brand is important. Readers want to know who is behind this new product. Over time, if you continue to promote your brand, you will start to gain more credibility. Having higher credibility will lead to higher sales.
Don't forget your contact information. At the end of your product press release, be sure to include your Company name, website URL, address, email, as well as a contact number.
Tips
• Avoid promoting several products in the same press release. That will dilute the focus of the article and reduce the overall effectiveness of the PR.
• If you have written an effective press release, don't let the sales slip away by not answering emails and calls! Have someone man the official support/sales email and phone line. A customer may just call you up to make a purchase.
• If you find that you can't craft out a product press release that is of decent quality, try hiring a freelancer or a professional PR writer. Your writing reflects the image of your Company. Bad quality writing implies bad quality products. So always publish good stuff.
