On The Question Of Novel Writing In The Social Media Age

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

Decided to put up a poll on Gab about how much I should be charging for a story. Mostly applies to LBRY more than here, but feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments anyway. How much would you spend on a random novel that catches your interests?

The model I have been thinking of trying (and kind of already started to in LBRY) is: first chapter free, then 5 cents a thousand words per chapter after.

Of course, just putting up a tip jar of some kinds is always an option. Quite possibly the preferable option even. I will say I'm not going to do a Patreon or the like, not till the day comes I start writing on at least a part-time basis and possibly not even then. It would just be scummy with my output (almost zilch lately) to ask for money monthly and I honestly don't think there is a market for novelists anymore unless you have a huge public draw.
