UNDER (PART 3)
PREVIOUSLY ON UNDER...
Caleb grabbed his plate of food and mine too, such a nice little brother right, yeah no...remember when I promised to give him my dinner? yeah I shouldn't have done that.
His smile haunted me as he walked away with my plate of mouth watering goodness, the sweet aroma faded as he made his way into his room.
NOW...
After standing there for a while, I went into my room. My room wasn't so big but I didn't have a lot of stuff in it so it seemed really big, I had my bed which was barely big enough to fit me, a mirror with a crack that often distorted my face and a painting of the ocean(painted by yours truly).
I spent most of my time in my room and even more near the ocean, my mum thinks I'm obsessed, maybe I am, just a little. There really isn't much to do in our lonely town, my brother usually hangs out with his friends, my mom stays home mostly, my dad...well my dad is no longer around, hasn't been for a while now. I don't like to think about it, just like the mirror on my wall, the memories are distorted, I can barely remember what he looks like.
My mum says I'm a lot like him, the way I talk and walk, the way my eyes squint when I smile, he also loved the ocean, a little too much. That's probably what scares her, the striking resemblance I mean. She's probably worried I'll end up missing too. I worry too sometimes, but I'm mostly curious, I wonder what happened to him, I wonder what happens beneath the waves of the blue salty water.
The darkness slowly found its way into my room as I stared at the painting on the wall. You're probably wondering what's special about the painting, I'll tell you. It was inspired by my dad. I don't remember much about him but I remember the night we both sat by the ocean, it was almost like the ocean and the sky were trying to outshine each other.
He pointed at a lighthouse and said, "do you know what that means?" I was confused, my dad always had a different way of seeing things, it's what made him special. "I don't" I replied, knowing that he wasn't interested in the obvious answer. "What you desire the most" he said, staring into the night. A lighthouse signifies what a person wants most in life, it's surrounded by the ocean because sometimes you have to go through the storm to get what you want. I didn't really know the meaning of what he said but I nodded in agreement.
The painting on my wall is an illustration of the ocean and the lighthouse, so even as aesthetically pleasing as it is to stare at, it means a lot to me.
I got up from my bed and snuck out of the house, it was starting to get boring and the smell of my dinner was still haunting me. After some minutes of walking, I was near the ocean again and I was getting a weird chill as I got nearer, the air seems thicker and the night was darker. I didn't stop walking, as I approached my usual spot, I saw something moving behind the trees, whatever it was, it sure was comfortable. It moved like it owned the atmosphere, like the earth was lucky to be graced by her feet.
"Who could she be" I wondered as I stared, following her every step. Her black silky hair imitated the waves of the ocean as the wind caressed it. She got closer and closer to the ocean, closer than I had ever gotten. "She must be so fearless" I thought to myself wondering why she was going near the same ocean everyone is so scared of. She was definitely a person of interest, she was really beautiful too, I didn't have to see her face to know that.
She dove into the water and I watched as the water gave way to her perfectly symmetrical body, I was starting to get really close to the ocean myself. She was under for a while, I was starting to get worried, almost worried enough to jump in after her, almost.
Right before I could decide to jump after her, she resurfaced, slowly. The way the water rolled off her skin made mine crawl(in a good way). Our eyes met and I got lost in hers, she had deep blue eyes that seemed violent and calm at the same time. Her eyes made me think of the way waves crash into each other.
Oh wow! It's gonna be a love story! Yayyyyyy! Well done @darkmayhem, this was a truly beautiful read. Simply delightful. Cheers!
