How to start writing

Sometimes the simplest solution can turn into the hardest answer, and when it comes to writing that is especially so.

Do you want to become a better writer?

Its simple!

Stop aspiring and start writing.

If you’re writing, you’re a writer. It's as plain as that.

Write like you’re a goddamn death row inmate with no time to spare.

Write like you’re clinging to the edge of a cliff, white knuckles, on your last breath, and you’ve got just one last thing to say.

There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.

Take a deep breath and tell us your deepest, darkest secret, so we can wipe our brow and know that we’re not alone.

Life can be long but its always shorter than you think, even if you feel like no one cares about your opinion or that no one will ever like or read your works.

It doesn't matter as long as writing is what you like to do and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Never think of doing something later that can be done now.

That is the secret to life — to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now.

And instead of calling it work, you realize it is play.

“Advice? I don’t have advice.

Stop aspiring and start writing.

If you’re writing, you’re a writer.

Write like you’re a goddamn death row inmate and the governor is out of >the country and there’s no chance for a pardon.

Write like you’re clinging to the edge of a cliff, white knuckles, on your last breath, and you’ve got just one last thing to say, like you’re a bird flying over us and you can see everything, and please, for God’s sake, tell us something that will save us from ourselves. Take a deep breath and tell us your deepest, darkest secret, so we can wipe our brow and know that we’re not alone.

Write like you have a message from the king. Or don’t. Who knows, maybe you’re one of the lucky ones who doesn’t have to.”
