The Lion of Zulu: Allurement of the Four. Act II

Act II Scene I

The four Journeyed into the ihlathi of Isandwama. Paying full attention to the instructions of the Sangoma. They approached the deep of the forest where there various temptation began.

(Enter all four warriors, looking tired, worn out and in fear. Enters an Old Spirit in disguise of Funani's dead mother)

Batu:

Where are we going to find the Mutili?

Itchi:

Don't worry, I know the way

Lungelo:

(To Itchi) You? You are the one with the least Ithalente, how can you know the way?

Funani:

We should follow the instructions of the Diviner...

Lungelo:

Exactly! (All continues moving)

Old Spirit:

Come my child. Come my child
(All warriors were shocked. Funani takes a step closer to battle it with her protective charms without knowing it was her mother. The other warriors tries to restrain her. She let go and pour the substance on the Old spirit. The Old Spirit staggers and brought out her favorite fruit. She gets enthralled by it)

Funani:

Mother is that you? (looking hypnotized. Other warriors warns her not to go, reminding her that this is the land of evil).

Old Spirit:

It is me Funani. Come child.
(Funani approaches amidst shouting from her warriors. She takes the fruit and eats, falling on the ground. The others run for dear life and the Old woman approaches her, takes her bag of ithalente and Loses her hair. Exit Old woman. Funani wakes up, and realizing that her mapped hair has been unbraided, she looks lost and exits stage in the wrong direction leading back to the royal Kraal).

ACT II, SCENE II

Enters the 3 warriors in gloomy faces. They have no map and the issue of who to follow becomes a thing of worry.

Abatu:

Now Funani is gone, who are we to follow?

Lungelo:

(to Abatu) The diviner would have suggested that if it came to that we should follow the person with the most ithalente. Which is unfortunately you (Reeking in Jealousy).

Itchi:

Let us just keep watch and go. (they all heard a voice deep into the forest)

Strange voice:

Help me! Help me!

Abatu:

You all heard that NE? (all nodded in agreement. Suddenly becomes frantic) That is the voice of Funani. She is not dead. She needs our help! (the voice continues in background)

Itchi:

(Holds Abatu) No! It is not her. She is dead don't go please.

Abatu:

No! it is her voice. By my mother, I must help her. (exits Stage and was deceived into giving his Ithalente. He got lost and takes the wrong way back to the royal kraal)

Lungelo:

Let him go. Leave him alone. We must keep going. We have less than a day.

Itchi:

(Burst into sudden tears and knelt on the floor dropping his weapons) Abatu, is gone. (Continues crying) We were four, now have shrinked to two. We are doomed!

Lungelo:

What are you doing? Stop that puerile tears. Men of Zulu are not to be weak (Scolding at Itchi) You are weak. Stop that tears or I will leave you and continue my journey alone! (he stands and continues with Lungelo)

ACT II, SCENE III

Enters two evil spirit with agility. They smell the two warriors and run circles on them. The warriors reached for their bags and put on their protective charms.

First spirit:

Warriors of Amazulu! (laughs hysterically) We have heard about the strength of your King, I wonder why this feeble beings are sent here to face the perils of Isandwama. I laugh at your faint valor.

Second Spirit:

You will die in this forest(Hahaha) your flesh will be eaten by the cankerworms of ihlathi. Weaklings!

Lungelo:

(Removes the protective charms on her mouth) How dare you call us weaklings!
(Reach out to grab hold of one of the spirit and was struck by an unknown force. The other warrior retreats back a little to avoid the onslaught. The Spirit makes way to her bag of ithalente and disposes her of it) Exeunt Spirits.
(warrior approaches lungelo and wraps her in his hands, crying. She regains consciousness. Standing up looking confused)

Itchi:

Lungelo! thank God you are alive. They are gone. Come let us go, we need to get the Mutili. We are running out of time!

Lungelo:

Who are you? (looking lost and confused) What are you saying...what is muti...Li. (scratches her head)

Itchi:

It is me, Itchi. We are to get the mutili so that we would save the king with it.

Lungelo:

Oh, Mutili!(suddenly remembering what he is talking about)...Ok. It is this way (pointing In the wrong direction)

Itchi:

No, it cannot be that way. That was the way we came into the forest. We have to go farther.

Lungelo:

(Insisting) It is this way(still bemused). It has to be. I must save the king. This way it is (Exits stage back to the royal kraal)

Itchi:

(looking down and beaten. Let out a loud cry and wept. He exist stage in listlessness)
