500 SP Delegation In The Near Future. - What's Your Thoughts On This?

I Promised That I Would Delegate 500 SP...

You see, when I made that promise, I said that I would start to delegate 500 SP for each 1000 SP I have/earn... And I would obviously want to keep my promise. But, I will do it with a small change.

I have a total of 836.656 STEEM right now... But, I have recently undelegated the Steem Power I delegated to @jerrybanfield, which I did in an experiment to speed up my own growing process. I undelegated the Steem Power because of a short loan I had to take from @neoxian recently. I will start to power down once I get this SP back and I will power down for 2 weeks. - This way, I'll be able to pay back what I owe using my Steem Power, instead of relying on potential post rewards.

That being said, I will start to power down in a day or so, and pay @neoxian using the Steem I get from my power down from 2 weeks. I will pay him 100 Steem in total so when I've paid him in full, I'll stop my power down and grow my account again. That means that I will have ~736 SP when I've paid him and I have decided to delegate 500 SP in total from that time and not wait until I reach 1000 SP!!

500 SP ON THE LINE!

So, even though I've come to the conclusion that I will delegate 500 SP in about 2 weeks from now, I have not been able to decide on exactly how I will do it.

And I'm not talking about how I delegate to others... What I talk about is the fact that I don't know if I should delegate 500 SP to one Steemian or split the 500 SP and delegate to more than one person.

What's Your Thoughts On This?

First of all, I just want to say that I am able to do this due to the awesome delegation I've received from @fulltimegeek. He saw potential in me and/or liked the things I did or tried to do... And I guess that's the reason I received this delegation to begin with... But, even without the delegation from @fulltimegeek, I would've done this sooner or later, due to FTG's generosity. The whole idea behind the delegations are incredible and I have been able to have a much bigger impact than ever before due to his generosity and mindset... But I also realized that I should do this myself too.

  • It's literally the most awesome thing you can do for the entire platform.

I mean, 500 SP is not a huge amount of SP by any means... But it's still 500 SP that can make some difference. I am not a well established Steemian and there's literally hundreds of authors on Steemit with higher payouts than me. Many of them have more support and contributes to Steemit in various ways. Even though it might take me a long period of time to reach 1000 SP... That's still only my first stepping stone.

I have every intention to delegate 500 SP for each 1000 SP I have, but I will start to delegate the first 500 SP even though I have 700+ in total, because that's my way of "paying it back" and my way to say "Thank you" for all the support.

So my question is...

Should I delegate 500 SP to one Steemian or delegate SP to two different Steemians and delegate 250 SP each? - Or 5x100 SP? - I have no idea, so feel free to help me to figure this out.

Feel free to tell me why you should get this delegation too, in case you're interested. I will not make any decisions at this time, but I would definitely use that in ~2 weeks when I'm about to delegate!

Here's some questions for you to answer. If you're up for it:

  • What do you think would be best? Delegate to one or more Steemians?
  • How should I split the SP in case I delegate to more than one?
  • What kind of requirements should I have?
  • Should I delegate for a certain time?
  • Why should I delegate SP to you?

Thank You For The Support!

I try to curate as much as I can. I also love steemit & run the @eastcoaststeem manual curation account. I enjoy "paying it forward" so to speak. I think you should do 5×100 delegations to worthy Steemians. Not to mention names but I've seen the larger sp delegations get to people's heads and not be used for the greater good that is why i support small delegations.

Thanks chelsea, I appreciate it. 5x100 sounds pretty good. So far, everyone have mentioned smaller delegations so I guess that would be a good idea.

Who would you consider to be worthy?

I’ve only done a little delegating so far (duh, really should write a post about it). Just dipping my toe in so far, I’ve done three 100-SP delegations.

Not by any means suggesting that you do multiple delegations, but it’s what I was comfortable with at the time. For two of them, I told the delagatee that the delegation was for a three-month period (but I may well end up extending those). The third is more open-ended.

Meh, that’s me though.

Thank you very much for sharing that. I appreciate it. And yeah, you should write a post about it! :)

I guess you keep track of these people too. Just to see what they're up to and whatever. I mean, it wouldn't be that hard to track only one person, but if you delegate multiple people further on. How would you keep track of them in an easy way? - Check their content and voting behaviour?

I don't mind looking at some of the things, but I wouldn't want to spend several hours browsing content and voting patterns. But I guess I wouldn't have to check everything either, if I delegated SP to someone reliable.

It's not much but it could motivate several people to keep growing and stay active, especially when they feel like they hit the wall.

50 SP is already a month's pay in some countries - maybe delegate that much to each?

I'd delegate to genuine people who have hobbys and interests

I'd delegate for a uncertain time. It's your SP.

Don't delegate SP to me. I'd feel bad.

Thanks for your comment. Yeah, I thought of 50 SP at first actually, but it doesn't really feel like it would do any difference. Not much at least and I would love to give someone a boost so to speak. So they can see some difference or that they have some impact.

You have a good point about delegating for an uncertain time though.

1000 is my goal, too! High five :). I know it's not tons, but it feels like a big accomplishment right around the corner. I decided to power up a little more than usual as well, even though I could really use the payouts. Trying to invest as much as I can in the platform. I'd love to have a little more influence, and to be able to support authors I'm excited about in a more tangible way.

Yeah, I hear you. I've been cashing out as much as possible due to an upcoming education that starts in March. I need to pay a student debt before I'll be eligible new loans... So I've literally been forced to cash out.

However, I will start to power up and I will start to do more of a "50/50" thing. Cash out 50% of my earnings and power up the other half... But I really want to study and pay the debt, so I'll continue to cash out until I'm getting closer the amount for the total debt.

That's awesome - I remember you discussing that! It is a beautiful and tangible dream of mine now to be able to pay off my student loans from my Steemit work. It would be pure blessing.

But yes - also not wanting to miss the chance to commit more fully to the site, both for the sake of this thing we all love, and also obviously because this is the prime time as early adopters to do so. We all win when we commit more fully - that is definitely one of the big reasons I want to be more active in curating content! And a few more pennies from some SP would help :).

Full circle now! :)

I definitely think either the 5x100, or 2x250 is best. 100 is still a nice boost to lower accounts while 250 is a nice boost for people to help others with a bigger up vote.

Yeah, that's true. Thanks! - So, I'll definitely not delegate 500 SP to one user. I'll do more than one delegation. :)

Well... I would gladly use it if you couldn't decide ;)
But good choice, best to share the love all around!

Yeah... I think so too, but royaltiffany (in the comments below) has a very good point. I don't know what I'll do. I think it'll be more than one delegation, but I can't decide if I'll do 2x250 or 5x100. And don't worry, I'll remember you. ;)

IMO you should just delegate that power to one single person for an x amount of time. As soon as the time is up, pick another one and so on. It's easier to keep track and you would be able that way to incentivize more than one user.

Thank you! This was exactly what I thought about at the very beginning, but it feels like I would do more with this amount of SP if I delegated to more than just one person... But I might be wrong.

It would definitely be easier to keep track though, and that's a good thing.

What do you think would be a reasonable amount of time?

Keep in mind that Steemit is an always changing platform...so in one month a lot can change. I think one month or even less, like 21 days should be enough for an active user.

Hmm... Now you got me thinking. I appreciate your input! :)

No problem :) Just hope i helped a little.

Well... No. You made everything worse actually. Haha :D

I really thought I'd set my mind on 5x100 delegations but you have some good point and now I'll need to reconsider. However, I'm obviously still thankful. :)

Well damn ahhahahh ! I know many people don't think 500 sp it's a lot but it does make a small difference so you need to consider a lot of points when u delegate power. It's great to have multiple choices but each one has its advantages so think it trough and give yourself time in making a decision.

Yeah, you certainly have some good points... But, shouldn't 100 SP make a kind of huge difference for the smallest minnows too?

On the other hand, that would mean 5 different people to keep track of, but at the same time, 5 people who're able to have more of an "overall" impact so to speak. I don't know... I'll have to think about this. :D

Thanks for thinking about helping fellow steemians: My thoughts:
Delegate the 500SP to two steemians, so you can easily monitor both steemians and the effect of the SP will make a great change for those steemians.
For me , i derive pleasure in seeeing other people succeed, i love helping people and wont stop at the oppurtunity of helping a fellow steemian to make the community grow.
I am daily on steemit, so if other minnows have a problem getting along, i will always be of help to them at the right time needed.
If i can effect a change, i will be able to tell more people about steemit and be willing to give them a foundation to thread on.
I am also very active, and go through new post daily, upvoting at present is most times very frustrating because of my low voting power.
I will use this power to support great content and will not self vote.
I believe steemit is a great platform, and will continue to be great if all steemians help each other.

Thank you very much for your comment. I appreciate it. You seem to have really good intentions and even though I personally encourage selfvoting, that would be entirely up to you if I delegated SP to you in the near future. I'll definitely remember you, just like I've done since you wrote the comment on my old article. :)

Thank you!

Thanks a lot, your words are encouraging!

Keep up the great work! :)

Although i believe in spreading the love I think its important that you dont dilute its value and impact.

500 sp in the hands of one dedicated person can create more network value than 1sp delegated to 500.

Personally if it was me I wouldn't delagate to more than two people with a 250sp split.

At 250sp this still represents serious value and is likley to generate real legitimate excitement for the receivers while also weighty enough to cause a sense of duty to do something important with it.

I would also definitely have a minimum personal sp requirement from the receivers as proof they have or are developing an understanding of the system.

An additional max sp cap would also be useful eg if the delegation represents less than a 25% growth in total sp the delegation may be taken for granted.

Thank you very much for your comment @shai-hulud. I appreciate it and you have also some good points I would have to take into consideration.

I would also definitely have a minimum personal sp requirement from the receivers

Would you have some minimum user level requirements or something like that? I mean, reputation score or whatever. I won't have a follower requirement or anything like that, because that wouldn't feel good at all.

Rep isn't really a great indicator I could name a few steemians with crazy high rep that are far from the model that I think you want to create.

I once saw a report on the stewards that broke down total comments and average comment lenght which I think is a good indicator of their community engagement.

Additionally if it where me making the choice I wouldn't judge to harshly those that self vote or use vote bots provided its not excessive sometimes that self vote is all the reward us little red fish get for the effort put in.

I know your busy but one option is to link the full 500 delegation to a mentorship system it mean more work for you but could provide them with valuable direction.

Btw my wife said my percentage of 25% was two low and that the deligation should represent a growth of total sp by at least 50% preferably 100% minimun.

This is awesome, I truly appreciate your replies. I haven't slept for more than 1,5 hours these last 30 hours so it might be because of that, or perhaps I'm just stupid... :D - But I don't understand what you mean by this:

the deligation should represent a growth of total sp by at least 50% preferably 100% minimun.

However, I definitely agree with what you said regarding the reputation score.

sorry that was in relation to my suggestion re a max sp cap for the person you delegate to.

An additional max sp cap would also be useful eg if the delegation represents less than a 25% growth in total sp the delegation may be taken for granted.

I was discussing it with my wife and she suggested that perhaps your delegation should represent a minimum 50% growth in total steem power preferably 100% growth.

eg there is not much point delegating 500sp to someone that holds 1000sp the larger you can feasibly make the growth in the receivers sp the greater their investment in its use.

Go get some sleep

Haha, thanks. I appreciate it. Just woke up and I'm feeling terrible actually. Worst headache in a long time. :S

That's a good point. I think I'll go with 2x250 or 5x100 SP delegations... And I think I'll try to delegate this to people I believe is "worthy" in the sense of what I feel they do, more than relying on reputation score or any other numbers actually.

However, one of the requirements will be that the person needs to be "active". Perhaps not 5 hours per day, but at least do something each day. I have already seen like 3 or 4 different people who actually might be "worthy" of the delegations and I haven't even started to look for anyone yet. :D

I was thinking about doing something similar and thought that it would be good to delegate enough SP to take a user just over 500SP thereby giving them the slider and the ability to give more upvotes before their voting power was drained. Would encourage more curation too which would be good.

Thank you for your comment. I appreciate it. I think I'll go with 2x250 or 5x100 SP delegations though...But I haven't decided yet.

Starting on Steemit is really mentally taxing and requires perseverance, dedication and great patience. Lots of people with writing talent may drop out at the early stages, but delegating 5x 100SP could be all the encouragement 5 people might need to stick with this, find some confidence, self-belief and stick with this for the long haul. I personally would love a small amount of SP. It would be a real boost, and something to pass on to another newbie in the same situation further down the line.

This is what I've been thinking too. Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it. 2x250 or 5x100 SP delegations... I think I'll go with that.

You're welcome. Keep up the good work. It's great to see people working unselfishly as a team in order to make the network grow. 👍
