RE: On the Path to Story Analysis, Scene Analysis, and Sentence Analysis

in #writing5 years ago

This is the kind of post that can contribute significantly to the development of wirters' skills (both in fiction and non-fiction).
Very succinct and direct; practical and insightful.
Coincidentally, I have been looking for texts to give my 15-year-old daughter to read, since she has expressed a genuine interest in developing herself as a writer.
She has been writing superhero scripts :)
I let her go on her own for a while, but now she came to the realization that she needs some foundations to develop characters, plot, etc.
I hope I can find some of the texts you have suggested here. They seem perfect for a young energetic writer.
I just finished watching the second season of Westworld and i can't help making connections with everything else. The idea of the reiteration of a scene and the determination of the values at stake between characters is very interesting at the time of determining in what direction the dialogues, characters, and plot should go.

That's all great stuff. At some point in the future I will make a post about my list of writing books and classes. I have found many that have been helpful. Actually, I'll just give you a book list here that I keep in my Google drive. Also, the class Brandon Sanderson gives at BYU is free on Youtube. It's good. And, masterclass.com has a lot of good writing classes. Here's my favorites book list: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1dFS7U3RC5dwyXp8NFQz_Pcon_2_mTDvLMHw6dhQ6_Lw

Great. Thank you very much

I also have some posts about the writing groups that I lead for homeschoolers that your daughter may be interested in. And, Westworld is great.

Ok. I'll check those out

And this is an important one for you both to read. It's just a start to this topic, but it's a good first look. http://www.jeffreyalexandermartin.com/2018/01/the-write-process.html
