THE BACK STORY TO THIS CHALLENGE
On a trip to Key West, Florida in 1981, a friend took me to the hallowed location of Ernest's favorite drinking spot. There were several old-timers there who invited us over for a drink. After a while, with a little prodding, the stories about Ernest began to come out.
It seems one-night Ernest, out of cash money - while waiting for a royalty check - came into the bar and asked his good friend the bartender for a drink. As Ernest's bill was already considerable, his request was rebuffed. Feeling sorry for his friend Earnst the bartender gave the following option, a way to earn a drink. "Write me a short story." and give me the rights, the bartender offered. In reply, Earnest asked told his friend; "Give Me a Napkin" Upon that cloth napkin the six words shown above is what Ernest Hemingway wrote.
