New York Is Rough In The Winter (An Original Poem - For Heath Ledger) by Jennifer Skyler

in #writing8 years ago

New York is rough in the winter, Love

The wind blows right through you

Cuts your face

Brittles your bones

Does not discriminate

The lovely, the damned

The young and the old

Succumb to Death’s sucking breath

And the bitter cold

New York is rough in the winter, Love

The loneliness can break you

Your eyes burn

Body aches

Skin cries

Yearning for the rush

Of human heat

Perhaps a smile

Do almost anything

Not to be alone for a while

New York is rough in the winter, Love

The loneliness can kill you

Bottomless bottles

Comfortless beds

Leave your lungs aching

Or is it all in your head

Swallow it all

Keep it inside

Too sick to run

Nowhere to hide

New York is rough in the winter, Love

When the eyes in the mirror

Are the only that see you

Hope feels broken

Courage, frost

Springtime is coming

But in the meantime you’re lost

Only nobody knows you’re on your way out

Too lovely too young

To possibly leave

Turn it around, Love

Oh Love, don’t leave

New York is rough in the winter, Love

There’s no denying that

Death’s chill sucks you closer

But please Love, don’t leave

Reaper grant us this reprieve

Leave the lovely and young

Take the damned and the old

Into your hollow arms

And the lonely cold

Turn it around, Love

Please, Love don’t leave

Please, Love don’t leave
