g o n e // short story
"Goodbye..." he murmured, giving her a final hug. She stood there motionless, a single tear rolling down her cheek. As he walked away, she whispered desperately, reaching her arm out as if to take him back and keep him there forever, "don't leave..." He didn't hear. As tears rolled down her cheeks, memories, memories of him, of them, crowded her mind. She remembered the first time they met, how his beautiful laugh had captured her. She remembered their first date, when he had told her she the most beautiful girl in the world. She remembered their first kiss, the feeling of finally finding home. She remembered everything.
Now standing in the cold wind on the cracked sidewalk, staring helplessly at his figure that was rapidly disappearing in the night, she clenched her fist, trying her best to hold back the tears that were threatening to overcome her. This was all her fault. She had promised herself that she would never fall for someone again. But with him, it hadn’t felt like falling. He had made her feel like she was flying above the world. He'd made her feel like she was his sun and moon. But in reality, she was just another star in his galaxy; a star that was slowly fading away.
She'd thought that he'd forever be there with her, for her. Just like he'd promised. But instead, he had left, taking part of her with him. She wished she could turn back time and relive all their memories. She knew that those memories would forever be with her, etched into her mind, soul, and heart. But everything they had was gone.
Just like him.
