That ending was unforeseen, @johnjgeddes. I never would have imagined that I was recounting the event as a past event. It would be that he imagined everything, he dreamed it? Yes, it was uncertain whether she was a seaside ghost or real - and whether he dreamt it or suffered from a temporary delusion. Regardless, it was the futility of ever knowing what actually happened that added to its mystique
