Why Is It Important To Have A Daily Diary

in #writing7 years ago

Are you stressed, angry or upset? Don’t want to talk about it? Then write it down. Daily diaries or journals are proven ways to rationalize your emotions, be truly honest with yourself and can even help in recovery for mental illness and bereavement.

Writing a daily diary also helps you to realize the value of each and every day, making it extremely beneficial for personal development.

Recovery and Personal Development

The practice of writing a diary is often suggested during recovery from a huge range of mental illnesses. It can also be recommended during the process of bereavement. Daily diaries can be a means of documenting your progress throughout your recovery, helping you in your personal development and improving your overall mental health and well-being.

Being Honest to Your True Identity

A lot of people do a facade of their real identity. Putting something in your diary is totally a personal activity, it's a selfish act I must say but it is essential for releasing unique individuality.

Of course, the idea is that no one but you is entitled to read it so there’s no point in being anything but honest; if you don’t, you’ll only be lying to yourself and that’s no use at all. There’s also the hope that writing a private journal will give you the confidence to gently inject your unique personality into your life outside the diary.

Rationalizing Your Thoughts, Feelings and Moods

Squeezing suppressed emotions further into the back of your mind will not make them disappear; it will simply engrave them more harshly into the patterns of your thoughts and make you more likely to engage in negative responses. Scribbling your frustration, anger, sadness, grief, disappointment and all other negatively stimulating thoughts, feelings and moods down on paper rationalizes them, if not immediately then after re-reading it later on.

Even if this does not rid you completely of your tormenting emotions, it at least soothes them and reduces the chance of you acting harmfully with those thoughts and feelings that will inevitably build up over time if not released safely through your daily diary.

Value Every Day

Everyday life can be hectic, strenuous and often dull. The stress of paying the bills, getting work done or successfully maintaining relationships can easily cause you to slither into a mundane routine. Taking a short amount of time out of each day to sit down and reflect on the day’s events and how they made you feel can be a fantastic way to consistently become relaxed.

You may even use your diary to write down the things you are thankful for, or things you appreciate that perhaps you do not feel you can verbalize just quite yet. Writing a daily diary helps you to value every single day – the key to living a truly fulfilling life.

Each day is special and bequeaths purpose and your diary will show this, even if some entries are short and seem pointless at the time.
