Sofia's Flute
Thales built wooden musical instruments. He was a young man whose mind always wandered asking himself questions like, "Who are we? What is nature?"
One day an old man came to his workshop, "I want you to make me an aulos," he said. For the young artisan that was an easy task, he did several every week. Then the old man gave him in a papyrus the specifications of how the aulos should be built, this surprised Thales, the aulos was simple and not double, and it also had only seven holes. The old man also gave him the wood which he had to use to build the unusual instrument. "It's for Sofia's birth," he said before leaving.
Thales made the aulos, and then he began to blow it, the sound that came out made him have revelations in his mind... They were constant epiphanies that gave answers to his questions, he came to love that piece of wood, but he had to deliver it. When his client arrived, Thales told him, "it's ready for your daughter Sofia", then the old man said, "she is not my daughter, she your daughter" and left. And thus philosophy was born.
