RE: Vocab-ability–23 (brev, bri = short) – A More Powerful Vocabulary (earn UpVotes with “Vocab Practice” exercise)

in #writing7 years ago

MY VOCAB PRACTICE:

  1. Brief
I prefer to have a brief lunch-break, otherwise I'd lose myself into activities that would overly distract me and zone me out from my main focus on work.

  2. Brevity
Brevity is not my father's best quality: whatever he is discussing he lose himself into inane details and he goes tangents.

  3. Abbreviate
I hate when Anglo- Saxons use acronyms or abbreviate words: language is a free key to communicate in a variety of codes and I dislike to save in expression.

  4. Abridge
My supervisor showed his disapproval when I abridged the field mission to attend an art exhibition in another town, demonstrating not professional priorities.

Sort:

"Abridge" is used to shorten some THING, such as a book or a story. We usually do not use it when we talk about shortening time.

Cheers for the feedback
