Find your true motivation in life by going 5 WHY’S deep.

I challenge you to think about your goals in life and then take them 5 why’s deep to find your true motivation. Be honest with yourself during this exercise. Let’s start by digging into our life goals. Think about the top goals you have for your life and keep them in your mind during this #blog. Let’s use the picture below as a jumping off point. It seems like young Carl has had an awakening in the midst of the zombie apocalypse and now he wants to be a #musician. Let’s help Rick bring him 5 why’s deep.

I want to be a musician!
(1) WHY?
Because I love the feeling of performing my music to the world!
(2) WHY?
Because it makes me feel alive to have people listen to my music and like me!
(3) WHY?
Because people never seem to listen to me when I just talk and I hate being so normal all the time.
(4) WHY?
Because I feel like I have value to bring to the world through my music and I love being weird.
(5) WHY?
Because I have a unique view of the world and I want to help people be happy like me!

Well Carl, a goal to make people happier is a pretty dope reason to want to be a musician. With this true #motivation in mind Carl will have his motivations aligned with his life goals. He’ll have a hell of a lot more spiritual power than someone who only went one why deep and is making music because ‘they love the feeling of performing’. Looks like Carl is well on his way to achieving his dreams because he found his true motivation, to help people be happier.

ALIGN YOUR LIFE GOALS WITH THE NEEDS OF THE WORLD

I might be getting a bit hippy with the one but I can assure you that your life goals will find much more success if they are aligned with the needs of the world. Our world is a pretty fucked up place at the moment and Carl’s motivation to make people happier is certainly aligned with the needs of the world. Being a musician because your ‘love the feeling of performing’ (Carl’s first why) is not aligned with the needs of the world and won’t get him very far. When your aligned with the needs of our world you tap into something that is bigger than just yourself or your goals. You tap into true purpose. True purpose is a power that can’t be stopped.

ARE YOUR VALUES AND MOTIVATIONS ALIGNED WITH YOUR ACTIONS?

Now let’s move from our motivations and life goals to our values and actions. A lot of us have an image of our best self in our minds that does not necessarily align with our day to day actions. Think about your values and think about your day to day actions. Be open and honest with yourself in finding where your actions and your values are out of alignment. I’ll use myself as an example here, one of my deepest values in life is the importance of family and spending quality time with loved ones. However, when I look at my day to day actions I often find myself working after hours or being too involved in my phone at times when I could be spending quality time with my wife! I’ve recognized that my day to day actions are not properly aligned with this family value so I am working to make it right. This is the type of open and honest self-evaluation that you should run on your values and actions as often as possible. A lot of people use the example of working your life back from the eulogy at your funeral (depressing, I know lol). What do you want your friends and family to say at your funeral? You probably want them to say you were a great person, that you were a good friend, that you were caring, honest, and loving. Well, if you want to be remembered this way you better live this way! Align your values with your actions to ensure your living your best life.

When you align your life goals with the needs of our world you unlock your true purpose, a power that cannot be stopped.
