Words That Sound same in Serbian and English!
Hello again!
Words are powerful thing! They can please you, make your opinion, make you fall in love, make you hate or even hurt you!
But, also, they are really fragile little things and many times can confuse by their double face.
Here, I will show you some words that sounds exactly the same in English and in Serbian, but the meaning is totally different!
First one will be>>> English: Least (at least)
Serbian: List/Лист *pronounced same as English word least
In Serbian, "List" means "Leaf"
Second one>>> English: Glass
Serbian: Glas/Глас *pronounced same as English word glass
In Serbian, "Glas" means "Voice"
Third one>>> English: Seer (person that can see something, for example seer of the future)
Serbian: Sir/Сир
In Serbian, "Sir" means "Cheese"
Also, there is one interesting word that Shakespeare used a lot in his sonnets, and that is word "Thee"!
Interesting is that "Thee" means "You"
But in Serbian, "You" is pronounced exactly the same!!! You in Serbian would be>>> "Ti/Ти"
My theory is that Shakespeare tried to use some words from Russian, because in Russian "You" is "Tи", and also from some other languages. Something like Nadsat slang :) I will make one post about Nadsat. That is slang from movie Clockwork Orange.
See ya till next post!
