What is communication?

Communication can be defined as transferring information from one place to another, it involves two people. It can also be defined as sending or receiving information. Communication cannot be completed by one person.it involves two or more people for a communication to be established. Communication is very important in the marriage because it determines whether the marriage will last or will be cut short.

What is marriage?

Marriage is the joining together of a man and a woman to become one.
All marriages has ups and down but If there is no good communication in the marriage it will lead to mistrust, frustration, fighting among spouse. For example if the husband get home and meet the house untidy and the wife sleeping, he then start beating the wife or abusing the wife that she is dirty and lazy not knowing that the wife was sick even before leaving the house in the morning. If there was a good communication in the house he will notice that the wife was sick even before leaving the house in the morning.

How will you get a better communication in marriage?

• You must have a good communication with God our creator first before any other thing.

• Always listen to one another don’t allow your attention to be divided and don’t always be in a rush to go somewhere.

• Don’t be judgmental; don’t always blame your spouse if something goes wrong, always try to take a deeper look at things and find a way out.

• Don’t always compare your spouse with another person. Reverence one another.

• Don’t always say negative things to your spouse. Like why don’t you grow up or you are acting like a child. Words like this should be avoided in marriage. Speak edifying words instead to one another.

• Don’t always hide your feelings from each other, be always open minded.

• Don’t always bring up one’s past even if there is a little misunderstanding in the home.

• Always ask questions.

• Always clarify things with your spouse, be specific to avoid any form of misunderstanding.

• Right timing: always look at the mood of your spouse before you discuss something very serious with him, for instance if he loves to watch football and you are discussing something important with him, he won’t respond to you as required or may even ignore you because he is so engrossed with the football match he is watching. So always look for the right time before you discuss anything serious with your spouse.

• Always make time to talk together, don’t always be busy with other things. With a place like Lagos people are always busy ,you leave your house as early as 5am and get home as late as 10pm definitely you are tired but still create time to have a little chat with your spouse before sleeping because if you don’t do it, issues will be piling up without being resolved.

MISTAKES IN MARRIAGE.

• Don’t be competitive; in marriage there shouldn’t be competition, the two of you has become one so why competition should be seen. One may be getting better salary than the other, that shouldn’t bring disrespect in the home and lack of communication, always note that anything you earn or bring to the home is for the two of you because you are now one in marriage.

• Don’t always say its all about me in the marriage, the two of you have become one, always care for the other as yourself. The bible says in Matthew 22vs29 love your neighbor as yourself.
Communication is key in the home because it brings you closer to eachother,it avoids misunderstanding ,avoids quarrelling , you are able to say your fears, weakness, likes, dislikes and how your day went. Communication should not always be done orally, there should be body language also during communication.
If you look at the statistic of divorce and find out the reason why they divorced, You will notice its because of lack of good communication in the marriage.
