The Undertaker def. Goldberg

in #wwe5 years ago

This was not the match between Goldberg and The Undertaker at the peak of the Era Attitude or what it could have been in the ensuing decade.

The closing moments of its match at the end of Super ShowDown left much to be desired, despite the fact that Undertaker (54), and Goldberg (52) did a good job until then. A failed jackhammer effort that almost became a hazardous brainbuster gave way to a failed shift to the sepulcher and lastly to a chokeslam. The Undertaker won the concert and it ended at nearly 1 am. Saudi Arabia local time.

These early errors almost definitely overlook the moments between the Undertaker and Goldberg which made their first meeting unique. Their entrances were gaudy and as large as they ever were, and at the beginning of the game, the stare-down and the size-up moment that seemed to take minutes, the audience was thrilled.

When Goldberg imitated the slash of the company's neck and the company had a swing, it was on. Goldberg rapidly struck back-to-back spears and seemed as if he was channeling Brock Lesnar's first post-return win. But it only gained a2-count before Undertaker sat and reminded fans of the best they remember.

Goldberg took another spear attempt to the corner, and when he was empty, the tiny Goldberg cut on his head before the game opened into a full-blown, hemorrhaging mess on his front.

Taker received Goldberg for a chokeslam after he reached the old school and struck it. Under some strain, Goldberg got up and a monument was nailed–but it only had two counts. After Undertaker climbed to the top rope and snapped his eyes, he struck his third spear and bounced off the ropes.

Goldberg went to the jackhammer and got Undertaker up, but couldn't cleanly take Taker down and almost dropped Undertaker on his head. An ambitious shift was overwhelmed and the undertaking finally decided to strike another chokeslam in order to put the game to bed.

On an evening when the majority of match outcomes were made irrelevant by rematches for the next few weeks, it is probably best to recall a few of the highlights of this game and follow–probably a good tip for Super ShowDown in its entirety.
