Verge XVG quick Mining Guide using Windows PC
As of writing of this article mining XVG is starting to be one of the most profitable coins to mine. After running several tests, it looks like mining Verge using the X-17 algorythm produces the best results using Nvidia GTX 1060 and Nvidia GTX 1080 TI video cards.
I haven't tested other video cards, but you can check out this website to check your video card hash rates.
Here is how both video cards compare as of writing of this article at a difficulty of 13572.362:
Nvidia GTX 1060:
Max achievable hash rate: ~7100 kH/s
Overclocking settings: Power Limit: 100%, Core Clock: +75, Memory Clock: +400
Results: ~16.8 XVG per 24h
Nvidia GTX 1080 TI:
Max achievable hash rate: ~19.5MH/s (19,500 kH/s) use this link to convert kilo to mega
Overclocking settings: Power Limit: 100%, Core Clock: +75, Memory Clock: +400
Results: ~45.2 XVG per 24h
What you need to get started (preparation):
- 1 or more Nvidia GTX series cards (Windows 7 or 10, allows up to 8 video cards to run simultaneously (an explanation of how to run more than 1 video card is below)
- Make sure your video card is installed and working properly with official Nvidia drivers, I would avoid the very latest drivers as they may cause stability issues, so download and install a driver that has been released several months ago
- Install MSI Afterburner. Link to download is here
- Download mining software. The most efficient mining software for XVG under X-17 algorithm is ccminer by Alexis. Link to download is here (Keep in mind that if you attempt to download this using Google Chrome, the file will most likely be detected as malware and Chrome will not allow you to download it unless you change this in settings. Also, if you have an Anti Virus software installed, it will most likely flag the file and block it as well. Don't worry, this is not a virus or malware, it is just flagged as one as malicious people may install ccminer as a hidden service in windows in order to mine cryptocurrency without user's consent, thus mining software usually gets flagged as a virus/malware.
- You will need to get an XVG wallet. For ease of installation I recommend an app called Coinomi if you have an Android device, otherwise you can download one of the official XVG walles directly from the official website. Link here If you don't want to mess around with wallet installation, you can join an exchange such as Binance and use your XVG deposit deposit wallet. Link to join Binance exchange here
- Join a mining pool. I recommend a supernova pool. Link here
Start mining (step by step) guide:
Assuming your video card/cards is installed and running properly, run MSI Afterburner and setup overclocking as follows: Power Limit: 100%, Core Clock: +75, Memory Clock: +400
Unzip the mining software you downloaded to a location of your choice. Once unzipped, open the folder (should be unzipped as ccminer alexis-1.0 windows). In this folder you will find a text .bat file called: Nicehash-SIB.bat Rename this file and call it supernova.bat
Once the file is renamed right click on it and and from the menu, select Edit. A text editor will open. Delete everything you see in the text editor and copy and paste this batch command:
ccminer -a x17 -o stratum+tcp://xvg-x17.suprnova.cc:7477 -u USERNAME.WORKER -p xxx -i xxx
pause
Now you need to modify this slightly to make sure it corresponds to your information. So instead of USERNAME type in your username you created in the Supernova pool. in WORKER type the name of the worker you created in the Supernova pool. in -p xxx replace xxx with the password you set for your worker at the supernova pool. In -1 xxx replace xxx with number 21 (this is an intensity level, higher number means more hash rate, too high of a number will crash the miner, anything over 22 will most likely crash)
To give you an example. Lets say my username is MYNAME, my worker name is MYRIG and my worker password is 123 and my intensity level (-i) is 21. The command should look like this:
ccminer -a x17 -o stratum+tcp://xvg-x17.suprnova.cc:7477 -u MYNAME.MYRIG -p 123 -i 21
pause
Once you put all the correct information in, go to File and Save. Close the text editor.
- Everything is ready now to start the miner. Double click on the file called supernova.bat. The miner should start and if you followed all the directions above correctly you should start mining XVG.
For those who wish to run more than 1 video card, it is quite simple but requires a motherboard that has multiple PCIe connectors as well as a powerful enough power supply to handle all the power requirements. Overclocked GTX 1080 TI cards will consume about 200W of power continuously.
It will be hard to find a typical motherboard that has more than 2 or 3 PCIe 16 connectors. There are motherboards that have been made just for mining and they allow you to connect up to 12 video cards. Setting this up is rather complex. I am planning on creating a guide to build a 12 GPU mining rig soon.
