Expanding Your Horizons || Storming

One great thing about being an artist is learning new things, whether that means perfecting (if perfection is ever an attainable goal) a technique, or finding a tutorial that's just perfect for learning that one thing you were having trouble with. Being an artist is an ever growing skill. You never STOP learning, which is what's so great about it, the journey never ends. It's even more exciting when you learn one thing for a specific piece, but that new skill can be used with future pieces. You keep learning, and you keep growing.

For this piece, drawing rain seemed easy enough, but parts I had trouble with was how rain reacted to skin, or less specifically, surface. It seemed simple enough, and thankfully there was more than enough references to learn from. One thing I learned was to use a low opacity brush along the edge of the surface the rain is falling, this will create a mist-like effect from where the rain is spraying up from the surface.

Other effects I picked up was the occasional single droplet running down the skin and clothes, not too many but enough to show how drenched Jade was in this picture. The background has many low opacity streaks of white to show the thickness of rain, and a darkened sky (and clouds) to mimic the darkness of the storm.
