[YouTube] My Top 10 Favourite YouTubers

in #youtube7 years ago (edited)

I'm back with yet another Top 10 list for you all. I've been using YouTube for over 12 years now, starting off by uploading silly videos made with friends back in the day to watching hours and hours of quality content made by creators from all over the world. First created by three former PayPal employees in February 2005, then bought by Google in November 2006 for US$1.65 billion; YouTube now operates as one of Google's subsidiaries and is the largest video streaming site in the world.

I thought I'd run through my personal Top 10 YouTubers who currently upload content on a regular basis so that you can enjoy them too. I struggled so much to finally settle on just 10, as my subscription list is currently around 350 channels, and if people enjoy this I might do more genre specific YouTube lists. Enough jibber-jabber, let's get into it.

Nerd City

Nerd City is a commentary channel with a focus on geek and pop culture, who have been growing at a strong steady rate for the past 12 months or so. I came across this channel during the Daddy'o'Five scandal last year, as they'd uploaded a very good couple of videos on the topic.

They do a number of videos exploring the YouTube ecosystem and algorithms that you might enjoy if you're into that kind of thing. They have videos covering topics like Instagram fakers and crappy YouTube channels, and they are all very professionally produced.

H3H3 Productions

H3H3 Productions is made up of married couple Ethan and Hila. They are two of the biggest YouTube stars around, having reached fame through their unique commentary style and comedic approach. They made it to the news when another YouTuber tried suing them for copyright infringement, which they of course won.

These days they don't upload as much content to their main channel, although there has been a recent spike in shorter videos, but instead focus their attention of the podcast which regularly receives over a million views, and features guests from all across the internet.

Internet Comment Etiquette

I'm ashamed to say I only recently found Big Daddy Saliva on one of my regular YouTube binge sessions, but he is easily one of my favourite comedy channels now. I first saw a couple of his videos many years ago, where he takes salvia before attempting to garden, or driving his car. The results are comedy gold.

He now does a series of videos called Internet Comment Etiquette with Erik, where he teaches us how to leave proper respectful comments by showing us the pure garbage that is the internet's comment sections. If you fancy brushing up on your comment skills, I definitely recommend you check this channel out as soon as you can.

Fredrik Knudsen

Fredrik Knudsen is known for his Down The Rabbit Hole series, a documentary style video series where he explores various curiosities from Chris-chan and Vaporwave music, to Empress Theresa and the Time Cube. Each episode is immensely fascinating

He also regularly does live feeds where he'll go through a lengthy topic, like reading the Sonichu comics or going over the recent document containing complaints against Channel Awesome. He doesn't upload with any regularity, but it's always a good day when a new video of his goes up.

Philip Defranco

Philip Defranco is best known for The Philip DeFranco Show, a news show centered on current events, politics and pop culture in which he voices his opinion, often presented in a satirical manner and with frequent jump cuts to create a fast-paced feel.

I catch this show every single day, it's the first thing I watch. It's certainly not the best source for news, but I enjoy his style and he often covers topics that I probably wouldn't have come across otherwise. He's more suited to an American audience, but is just as enjoyable for an international crowd.

Georg Rockall-Schmidt

Georg Rockall-Schmidt produces videos covering a variety of topics, from life and love, to why movie cliches are shit. He's got a very "British" dry humour that is right up my street. He also does a podcast called the Georg Rockall-Schmidt Show, although I will confess that I haven't found the time to listen to this one yet.

Two of my favourite series of his are Just A Thought and The Bizarre Summary, which are both fairly off-the-cuff comedic ramblings covering a wide range of topics. Worth checking out if you have the time.

Ashens (and Barshens)

Ashens is a British YouTuber who has been floating around the web in one form or the other since the dawn of time, or at least for the past couple of decades. He uploads videos about video games, old toys, weird old things in general as well as reviews. My personal favourite of his video series is probably the Poundland Crap ones, where he reviews crap from Poundland (and Dollar Stores sent in by viewers too).

He also has another channel that is well worth checking out called Barshens, which he hosts with a number of friends including Barry from My Virgin Kitchen, hence the name. They upload every friday on the dot, and if you like Ashens, you'll love Barshens.

Elvis The Alien

Elvis The Alien is probably the funniest YouTube commentary channel, but also at times the weirdest. He's done videos on everything from the girl who fucks dogs, to ASMR and "the butthole lady". Again, mostly geek and pop culture orientated stuff here and I'm starting to spot a pattern in my tastes...

He also has a gaming channel, which isn't really my thing, but there's also his merch which actually look kinda cool. Hilarious guy and he is definitely deserving of your time.

iDubbbzTV

iDubbbzTV, or as he is otherwise known Ian, is an American YouTuber who is probably best known for his Kickstarter Crap and Content Cop videos, as well as those featuring fellow YouTubers TVFilthyFrank, Maxmoefoe, and Howtobasic.

His Content Cop series is easily one of the most popular series on the whole of YouTube, where he rips into other YouTubers who he deems to be of low quality, or just otherwise shit. His second channel is actually worth checking out too, as he uploads all manner of things, but my personal choice is probably his Save the Squirrels Initiative.

I Hate Everything

IHE (or Alex) is a British YouTuber and commentator known for his rants on social media, movies, games, memes, and other topics as well as for never having shown his face. He is best known for his "I Hate" series, where he mixes hyperbole and his own opinions to deliver comedic social commentary.

His other amazing series is The Search For The Worst where he reviews the worst films ever made, and crap movies is exactly what I'm all about.

Cool thanks for this I dont really do alot of Youtubing but its good to have a few names thrown about...

The ones I have followed in the past are - Doug Polk - he has a poker channel where he analyses poker hands and has started a crypto channel and it is informative and hillarious - highly reccomend!
ANd also Matt Stonie - competitive eating - this is just a good laugh!

YouTube has long been a big part of my media watching, although I did take a bit of a break between 2008-2012.

I'll go check Doug Polk out now, @calluna is out for most of the evening so need something to fill my time! I love Matt Stonie, I don't know what it is about competitive eating but it's so fascinating. LA Beast is another favourite of mine, similar to Matt Stonie just a bit weirder I guess.

Cool - Dougs crypto channel is great - ive watched them all now tho so I wait eagerly for new content - as I said worth a go but his style and humor might not be to your taste - let me know how you get on!

Yeah its funny eh and theres Furious Pete whos another good competitive eater - he is a bit more on the crazy side hahaha

That feeling when you've watched every single video and have to patiently wait for the next upload... I know it well!
