Criminals attacked YOUTUBE😱🔥

Malicious advertisements on YouTube left website visitors mining crypto.

This week Youtube was struck by malicious software that used the CPU power of website visitors to mine crypto coins. In 'mining' the processor power of a computer is used to validate transactions on the network. People who make this computing power available are rewarded with new crypto coins.

By deploying malware, attackers try to use the processor power of other computers, while they acquire the cryptocurrency themselves. In this case it was the crypto coin monero.

The malware on YouTube was hidden in the ads of DoubleClick. Google's advertising platform researchers from security company Trend Micro discovered it. In addition to the script that made DoubleClick's legitimate advertisement visible, two other scripts were also loaded. They used up to 80 % of the processor power of the website visitor.

According to Trend Micro, the malicious advertisements were visible to people in France, Spain, Italy, Japan and Taiwan.
