Steemir Chrome Extension Update
Hello again!
It was just brought to my attention that the Steemir Chrome Extension stopped working in the past few days. This was due to an issue in the Steem-js library.
I have corrected the problem and published a new update, version 1.0.0.2, which should be live in about an hour.
How to use Steemir
For those of you new to Steemir, the best way to see what it does is to try it out:
Download and install the Chrome Extension:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/steemir/bgnfciidadaiacgdbklebabbchfngbgn
Enter your Steemit.com username and posting key, then click save:
Upload videos to YouTube as you would normally:
You can enter markup in the description and your hash tags will carry over to Steemit.com; be sure to check the Steemir checkbox to make sure your post uploads to steemit.com too:
A link to your steemit.com post is automatically shown:
Your steemit.com earnings, likes and and clickable links are then shown next to your YouTube videos, so you can keep track of them:
You can click on any of the links to open a new tab and bring you right to your Steemit.com post:
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Does this cost anything?
Steemir charges as low as 5% of the Steem you earn on each of your videos, unlike DTube which is fixed at 25%. YouTube, Steemit.com, and Steemir are completely free; as you probably know, Steemit.com users generate income by posting content; the money comes from network usage, and there are no hidden fees. However, just like DTube, 25% of any profits you make from earnings from videos uploaded with Steemir to Steemit.com will go to help fund Steemir. If you don't earn anything, you don't pay anything!
If you really enjoy Steemir and you feel like leaving a 5 star review on Steemir on the Chrome Extension site , please send us a link to that review , and once verified, we'll send you a code to immediately receive the 20% total for your steem account!
You can also invite your friends to get onboard Steemir, and for each one that installs Steemir we'll give you 5% more of the profit per video, up to 20% total, reducing the amount Steemir gets to 5%. Your friends will also receive 5% more per video, for signing up with your referral link. You can find your personal referral link in the settings on the Steemir Chrome extension or go directly to referrals.
Ultimately, the fee will be reduced further as more people use Steemir, most likely to 5% for everyone, and 1% for those who help share and promote Steemir.
2. How fast can I upload YouTube videos?
You can upload as many videos as fast as YouTube normally allows, but you can only post one video to Steemit.com every 5 minutes. Steemir does show a counter that shows how much time you need to wait if you want the video to post to Steemit.com also.
3. Can I use Steemir to post my older YouTube videos too?
Not yet, but we are working on it! We are also working on adding scheduling that hooks into YouTube's video scheduling!
4. Are my videos decentralized?
Not yet! Currently only the link to your YouTube video is sent to the Steem blockchain, but that feature is currently in the works too, of getting a full backup of your video in a decentralized location using IPFS and/or WebTorrent technologies, including also connecting to BitChute. Connecting to DTube is also a possibility but I have spoken with @heimindanger and he is not interested in connecting it up just yet, as he is already charging 25% per video.
I am also currently looking into posting the content to Alexandria, a new platform, that would also allow additional monetizing using the FLO coin. Alexandria also uses IPFS technology.
5. Can you add new features?
Yes, if you have ideas for improvement or new features, please send them to [email protected] . Many new features are already in the works, and you will be seeing them in future updates.
Support
If in case you find bugs or problems, or need technical assistance, you can search our knowledge base or open a support ticket, and someone will get back to you very quickly.
Long Term Goals
It would be great to ultimately not have to use YouTube in the future, and migrate over to decentralized video services such as BitChute.com, Dtube.video, Minds.com and vid.me. Much like the early travelers to the Americas, leaving their homelands to escape oppressive governments, Steemir aims to ferry people over to the freer new platforms in comfort and style!
I held off adding more features just yet, as I didn't want the extension to be too confusing for newcomers. YouTubers that have never heard of Steemit.com may be overwhelmed enough, without introducing new concepts such as decentralized video, and BitChute and DTube.
Also, in the works, is monetizing using additional crypto currencies, so that you will not only earn Steem, but also, other up-and-coming crypto currencies, such as http://flo.cash. FLO has been around since 2013, and I have recently been recruited to help update it to the latest features matching Bitcoin and Litecoin. FLO also includes a unique app-data field that allows decentralized apps to be created using FLO. One of these is the ALEXANDRIA at http://www.alexandria.io, where people can publish, distribute and sell digital content of all types, and earn FLO in the process. Alexandria, similar to YouTube, uses decentralized IPFS technology, to ensure your files cannot be blocked by any centralized authorities and also cuts out the middle man in monetizing your content.
Please leave any comments for improvements below, or on our website, https://steemir.com
Thank you, and I hope you enjoy it!
