YouTube sucks, another anti Youtube post.

When I saw the news about the Youtube shooting yesterday I thought it was just another nut. Then I heard she was mad about demonetization. I am not going to make this a free speech rant, to me it's about Youtube's shitty treatment of content creators because

I used to be one

I came to Steemit last year because YouTube decided my channel was no longer going to be monetized. They would review it if I got a certain number of subscribers and views. To me this seemed pretty unfair. I put all this work into the videos with the understanding they would still be making me money years later. It was supposed to be you got 10 thousand views you qualified for monetization forever, then they move the goalpost.

My videos weren't meant to be big viral videos that got all their clicks in the first week, they were meant to be something people clicked on in the future. I still get lots of hits and comments today. Of course I make nothing from them now. No way am I going to try get back in after this, I could do a bunch more work and then it's "sorry we don't like the content so you get nothing"

I put money in

I bought a decent microphone and some editing software. I wouldn't have bought them if I knew ad-pocalypse was coming. I thought I entered into an agreement with Youtube, my channel was monetized unless a video did not meet the guidelines. Then all of a sudden they decided it was no longer monetized. How is this fair? If my boss fired me for no reason I would call the labor board. If I was doing a contract that someone just decided they wouldn't honor anymore I would sue. I have no option with Youtube to do anything. They hold all the power, content creators have none.

People thought it was a job

While my channel was a little bit of cash on the side, some people were making great money, and then all of a sudden they were no longer able to make a dime. People had quit their jobs to make YouTube videos full time. They have no recourse. There is literally nothing you can do. So while I condemn violence, I understand the mindset of the shooter.

You put everything into a Youtube channel, paid for ads and were counting on the income to feed your family? Tough, a robot just decided you don't qualify. All these giant companies YouTube, Facebook, Google, they all treat people like garbage. They have become too complacent, too big. You are not in a partnership with them, you serve them. It's bullshit and it's time to change the way we do business with these companies.

Other reasons YouTube sucks

  • I just went on Youtube and found several people who ripped a record/CD they don't the rights to and they still have ads. Some people know how to manipulate the system. Sharks get away with it, the little guy gets screwed.

  • The guy who made the suicide forest video, his video was on the front page trending. Maybe Youtube should try and concentrate on crap like that, they were promoting that video. It was only taken down due to media coverage and public outrage. They can't even hire a person to check if offensive material is trending.

  • They never suggest small channel videos. If my video is the same topic as the video they are watching, why isn't it in the sidebar? Instead it is a bunch of unrelated videos.

  • The comments. Vile, ignorant, racist, Youtube comments make me seriously question humanity. Steemit will downvote you into a negative reputation if you commented like that. And Youtube never seems to censor that shit.

  • YouTube has always had an anti small channel mindset. Your videos are hidden if you are a small channel, it's about the huge channels, that is all Youtube cares about.

  • Account termination for vague or no reason. You never see that at Steemit. Never.

Steemit is better

There is going to be ups and downs, it is still a crypto. If you were looking for a steady income it may not be for you. But as far as I am concerned the Steemit setup was a game changer. I don't have big brother telling me what I can write about. I don't spend a bunch of time working on something only to find out I did all that work for free. It's not perfect but I am doing way better here than YouTube. They have pissed off everyone, right wingers, left wingers, gun people, animal rights people (like the shooter), drug reformers, conspiracy theorists. The list is endless. They should have said it's only going to be people playing video games and unboxing stuff that will get paid.

I agree with you, that YouTube CEO clearly hates small YouTubers. What did we ever do to her? And you also forgot that YouTube chose to punish small channels after the Logan Paul incident. As to account termination, I had my gaming channel suspended when I did nothing wrong, and there was a kid called Anthony Da Boss telling people to kill themselves and YouTube did nothing yet they suspend my channel and I did nothing wrong.

my friend owns a channel on youtube and had a similar issue. steemit is better, even though its going through a down time

What annoys me most about Youtube is the self censorship of it's content creators as they try not to be demonitised. Dtube still has a bit of a way to go technology wise but it is great to see people using their true voice. Saying all that , as a viewer I still think youtube is a great resource.

Steemit isn't 'better', it is 'far far better' than YouTube. It's just a matter of time, Steemit is the future
