Gayo Lues district is one of the districts in the province of Aceh, Indonesia and is the result of the division of the Southeast Aceh District with the Legal Basis of Law No.4 of 2002 on April 10, 2002. The district is in the Bukit Barisan mountain range. most of the area is the Gunung Leuser National Park area which has been declared as a world heritage. This district is the most isolated district in Aceh. besides that, this area is the origin of the Saman Dance which in December 2012 has been designated as a non-objects world cultural heritage by UNESCO in Bali.

At first the Gayo and Alas regions formed separate self-government from Central Aceh District. therefore the Southeast Aceh District was formed (Law No. 4/1974). But because the Gayo area experienced difficulties, they also formed a separate district called Gayo Lues Regency (Law No. 4/2002). the government center of this district is controlled from Cinta Maju Village while the economic center remains in the capital city of Blangkejeren. [4] The regent officials were appointed by Ir. Muhammad Ali Kasim, M.M .
