Drama Review: Goblin

There was that one drama back in 2016 that sent the international k-drama lovers into a frenzy and it was no other but 'Goblin'. Starring Gong Yoo, Kim Go Eun, Lee Dong Wook, Yoo In Na and Yook Sung Jae, this drama earned it's title of being the 3rd highest rated k-drama in history to have aired on cable tv in Korea. That's promising already!

The drama is about a Goblin who has lived 900 years, the protector of souls and a Grim Reaper who manages the souls of the dead. The two live together and at most times do not get along well with each other. The Goblin wishes to end his immortal life however his life can only be come to an end if his human bride removes the hidden sword in his chest. The human bride he seeks and is the only person who can see the sword is no more than Ji Eun Tak played by Kim Go Eun. She is an optimistic high school student who happens to summon the Goblin. The two end up falling in love and the Goblin begins to battle with himself over choosing life or death.

On the other hand, the nameless Grim Reaper does not remember anything from his past life. He meets the beautiful chicken shop owner, Sunny, and he begins to have thoughts of what he used to be and what life was like before becoming a grim reaper. The four characters were fated to become intertwined.

Honestly, I started watching Goblin as soon as it began airing because Lee Dong Wook and Yoo In Na were in it and I am a fan of them! I was so drawn into this drama as Gong Yoo's story of his past and the sword in his chest unfolded. It was a mix of melo, romance and fantasy. It stuck to it's theme of life and death with death playing a bigger role as we were constantly reminded with Lee Dong Wook's character, the Grim Reaper. I probably can't stress more on what a good job the directors did in selecting the actors and actresses for this drama and their roles. They did such a good job which really made the drama even better.

Another highly advertised place that was a part of the filming location for this drama was Quebec, Canada! The autumn leaves, the town and that door... (you'll see why in the drama). So many people who have watched this drama literally flew themselves there to see the place. I'm not going to lie, I've added that to my list of 'must-go' for whenever I visit Canada too.

If you're after a good drama with good soundtrack, good story, good actors and actresses and good feels, I would highly recommend GOBLIN! This is one that's not to be missed.
