Excavations at the Lamuri kingdom historic site

in #archeology7 years ago

Archaeology graduate students from the Center for Global Archaeological Research, Universiti Sains Malaysia is conducting science activities in the Lamuri kingdom region at Lamreh hills, Krueng Raya, Aceh Besar. This activity is the opening scientific test box or excavation is a continuation of the surface surveying activities that have been conducted in 2014, 2015 and 2017. While I was involved as a research team in research in 2014 and 2015 and worked on a documentary.

In the ongoing excavation activities started from March 5, planned to be completed on Thursday, March 15, 2018, has found important findings in the form of pottery shards, ceramics originating from China, Vietnam and Thailand are estimated to range from the 12th to 15th century. This finding will reinforce the findings in previous research that will convince the existence of the Lamuri kingdom as an important archaeological site in Southeast Asia.

The central location point of the heritage site of the Lamuri kingdom is in the northwest corner of Sumatra Island, facing the Malacca Strait Line. Lamuri kingdom was concluded by researchers as a port city that once triumphed until the 15th century as a maritime gate of Southeast Asia.

I took some photos today Wednesday, March 17, 2018, at the location of excavation activities.

One of the ancient burial complexes on the Lamuri kingdom heritage site of highly artistic, decorated by typical local Arabic calligraphy combined with floral ornaments.

I believe that the research team obtained important data and facts about the Kingdom of Lamuri that could become a historical science for the people. Among them are the discovery of pottery and ceramics from China, Vietnam, and Thailand which shows the cultural exchanges between the Lamuri Kingdom and the nations of the world.

I see in the photographs above there are Independent Archaeologist Dedi Satria whose research in Aceh all this time has been pretty good. I hope that this kind of research should continue to be carried out by independent researchers, research teams from universities, research teams from government agencies such as National Archaeological bodies, and should receive serious support from the government. It is important to form a team of researchers involving Akeolog, Historian, and Geographer. Because there is still a lot of evidence in the form of traces of the history of Lamuri Kingdom, the Kingdom of Aceh Darussalam, and the Kingdom of Samudra Pasai that has not been revealed.

For example, how the spatial of the city of Lamuri Kingdom, the spatial of the city of Aceh Darussalam Kingdom, and the spatial of the city of the Kingdom of Samudra Pasai. In addition, it is necessary to also track where the former royal palace is located. So it needs to do research with archeology approach, history and geography approach.

Furthermore, it also needs to involve building experts (architecture) to redesign, how the royal palace shape, so that it can be built a replica of the palace that can be an attraction for foreign tourists.

Thanks @vannour for sharing information, photos and videos very interesting.
