First Topping of Northern Lights, Purple Trainwreck and a Rando Sativa
Unfortunately i faced some issues with these babies while i was growing my blue dream in the same room but in a seperate growing chamber, i dropped the temperature to bring out more color in my Blue dream buds towards the end of harvest which surely worked but the cold was too much for these lil girls and i was unable to stabilize the two different environments on my first go which led to some root problems and stunting as you an see belowthey werent looking so good here, the two on the right are northern lights, one i topped early and may have been a bad decision as the plant was not yet recovered when i did so, the purple trainwreck isnt in view here but it was doing the worst.. after my blue dream harvest and dry i pumped the heat up and within a week or two the plants seemed to be recovering and the top leafs were starting to look healthy again so i went through with the transplant to gallon pots in hopes they could continue their recovery. i lent a friend a book called "SOULS IN THE SEA" by Scott Taylor its about human desitiny and dolphins and whales play on this earth, it gets into a bunch of odd stories and science behind some thearaputic dolphin abilities. anyway when he went to mexico he came to find out that there was an area right near his cottage that the natives ran a dolphin therapy like program right there and he came back with this dolphin figurine for me so i was hoping the spirit of the dolphin would help recover my plants ( as well as upping the temps to mid 70's and humidity to 60%)
I sprinkled a ton of Great White Mychorizae bacteria a around the soild where the roots will meet the new soil, this is a great product and if you research more about mychorizae bacteria you would understand it is a crucial system in a healthy soil web and the ultimate symbiotic relationship i believe i've ever witnessed is between bacterias like this and the roots of plants, as the roots of plants are limited to their stretch, the bacteria in a for example a red wood forest is interlocked throughout the entire forest floor. Whats really interesting about this web of microbes is that they trade nutrients with rootsin exchange for energy they need that they cant get underground otherwise, and since the microbes web is so much more extensive they can actually draw nutrients from a place of abundance somewhere else in the forest floor and transport it to the plant lacking those particular nutrients, its a quite remarkable relationship we are just beginning to understand but what we do know is that the modern farming techniques kill off these microbes by disrupting the both the oh and nutrient balance in the soil, basically we are planting our major crops in "dead" soil. After finding more info on the matter is when i decided to switch to full organics, right now im reading the True Living organics 2nd edition which is basically just the first with some revisions and updated to be better organize, this Book by The Rev is well known in the organic growing community and i highly suggest you check it out even if you're not growing marijuana the techniques are the same.
Anyway after another week or two after transplant the plants seemed to make a great recover, and finally i felt they were healthy enough to do their first topping, in the other Northern lights and the rando sativa i cut off the dying lower leaves and left two sets of healthy leaves rather than one so that i would gain 4 new tops rather than two in order to try and save some time in veg. The spirit of the dolphin seems to be doing the trick,,
Now after just a few days i saw the branches begining to extend from the inner nodes, heres a close up if the rando sativa
After taking this pic i left for boston for a couple days so i gave them a nice watering, filled up my humidifier, set my heater and took off ti celebrate for st paddys day. When i returned i was delighted to see some new healthy growth and that they seem to be growing at fast rate so i dont believe the trim stressed them much since i let them recover from the cold problems before topping.
Heres the Rando after my return
Heres the Northern Lights
and heres all 4, the purple trainwreck still seemed to weak for a toppping and didnt have enough growth yet in my mind to handle more stress, so i just trimmed the dead leaves and allowed it to start new healthy growth, im hoping it can bounce back quick enough to keep up with the other plants, the Northern lights i topped early isnt looking so well as i suspected but she is growing steadily so she may make it out and ill top her later on if she does.
Yes I am upset i lost a lot of valuable time waiting for the plants to recover due to my neglect and lack of preparation in sustaining two separate environments side by side, however at this point they seem healthy again and are growing rapidly so im glad they were able to recover and it wasn't a complete waste. As these new branches grow out i will begin training them away from each other and i will continue topping and FIMing along the way adding high and low stress training with ties to create an even canopy with many tops. When i transplant to 3 gallon pots i will move the plants to my larger chamber under my 400 watt metal halide hortilux blue light and once there's too many tops to control with ties i will begin setup of a series of trellis net to further train the plants. Beautiful!! Resteemed!
If you continue to pay close attention to your environment, plant health, & knowledge of how natural systems grow, you’re going to be an excellent grower. Always lots of learning the first few rounds
for sure, ive found as kong as you can keep the ideal stable environment they will thrive its just perfecting and regulating of the environment is probably the hardest part of cultivating this miraculous plant
Yep, u have to account for the season changes outside for sure. I have found a pretty good balance with lights fans & my house furnace. Was running heaters when I first started to get temps up & then I thought, why pay to heat, when I can add light 🤔 💡
true that, ive added some fans as well and run my main lights at night to keep from getting to hot and the heat of the day leaves for a less drastic change in temp during their night cycles as i read that tip somewhere i cant recall but its worked great, currently ive had ti implementa heater to get temps up for now but now that you mention that ill look into some more lights to add heat since thats like double the benefits of just heat source.
It’s a fun balancing game to play. Most efficient use of power to give greatest benefit to plants & home!
I was right, not so stupid american! lol Great content, glad i came by to see the trending cannabis post.
This plant should never have been made illegal. It is a violation not of the plant but of humanity. How many have been arrested, slandered, stigmatized, fired, attacked, killed etc. because of this useless and counter productive drug war.
Learn and grow! Love it! What a killer job! Keep it growing!!
Dude My first Kritical Cali Mist had an accident after it had just sprouted and it was cut in half I took it out the soil throw the full root away sprinkled mykos over the soil and it made a come back. Im sure your plants will be okay soon it might effect your yield but we learn from our mistake so its cool. Great post and good luck.

Hmmm it doesn't really look like and adverse reaction to cold. What are your stats ATM?
i believe it was a combo of waiting to long to transplant and cold, but i am not positive as it is still one of my first grows, right now the temps around mid 70's consistantly with humidity around 60% but the temos got as low as 60 degree F at the worst stage
I'd put it on being rootbound... the thing is that plants that suffered cold usually bleach and yours don't look that way.
i had already picked off a lot of lower bleached leaves in hopes of promoting new healthy growth so perhaps it was a combo but thanks ill def be more careful on how long i wait to transplant
