My Journey from Rituals to Realisation - Mindfulness? Or should it be Mindlessness?
In the rush take ownership of and to reinvent and repackage old concepts of eastern traditions the industry of Mindfulness books videos and TED talks should be re-repacked as Mindlessness instead of Mindfulness.
To the Neo-modernist if the mind is full then it is good. A mindful person is educated hence the term to be mindful is to be thoughtful and a good quality and mindfulness is a extension of that idea.
However if the mind is less , it is empty it is dysfunctional and even worse madness has probably set in. Hence the derogatory phrase you are a mindless person or “What a mindless thing to do”.
Mindfulness is a Neo-modernist linguistic misrepresentation of what they are trying to describe and articulate. It is a repacking of Millennium of Eastern ideas of Transcendentalism and Taoist concepts of yoga, Chakras, pranayama, chi energy and meditation and much much more. Mindlessness is a thoughtful way to thoughtlessness; so as to gain Spiritual strength of your mind as a spiritual portal to connect to higher happiness, contentment and peace. To gain stillness .
True to form, the Neo-modernist attempt to reinvent and repackage the old eastern ideas of Yoga, meditation and detachment from attachment has been misinterpreted as Mindfulness when it actually should be Mindlessness. The whole conversation of Mindlessness is about the attention to removing your self from thought, silencing the mind from thought. The emptying of your mind from thoughts allowing you to look inward rather than outward. To give space to day dream connect to your own inner self. To turn your back on the materialistic world. To gain stillness.
In modern contemporary traditions the word Mindfulness equates to being educated and intelligent and enlightened. While Unfortunately Neo-modernist philosophy and education has come to equate mindlessness with madness. If you are mindless in the post Freudian world it correlates with being uneducated, crazy or a time waster and generally a lesser person. However it is clear that mindlessness is a way to greater inspiration and insights. To be mindless in the eastern tradition means to stop and reach stillness to attain peace and moksha liberation from the material world. To gain stillness.
The current education is thankfully catching up, writers like Graham Hancock, Rupert Sheldrake , Bruce Lipton and Vincent Walsh (Professor of Human Brain Research and Royal Society Industry Research Fellow at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, UCL) and many more, along with a growing number of Scientists have presented TED talks that are coalescing around the idea of a need for Mindlessness ( although the term mindlessness has never explicitly been stated). To gain stillness in our busy day and call to the higher consciousness for connection for something greater than ourselves. That is to become mindless
