That's what I would have thought. But then why isn't the caching tested on this site first before it is released on steemit.com!? Does anyone understand that!?

Nope. I remember that API restrictions, and then caching, were implemented after some sort of dDOS attack against hivemind back in August/September, so maybe they thought it was low risk and urgent, but that's wild speculation on my part.
