How to make homemade cider
Cider has become popular and widely available in Poland 2-3 years ago. Previously, it was not popular, it was just curious. At present, large alcoholic beverages felt good market in cider and have started to produce cider under their brands. This drink is very popular especially in the summer, because the chilled apple flavor quenches our thirst very well.
It is quite expensive, considering how many apples we have in Poland. Production of cider, in home is cheap and very simple. Today I will describe how to make homemade cider and show your my cider which is aged about 3 - 4 months.
What we gonna need:
Equipment
- fermentation container
- device for closing caps on bottles
- caps
- bottles
Most of these things are not mandatory, as we can only just need a container for fermentation, and the cider we can poured into, for example, plastic bottles.
Components
- apple juice 100%
- wine yeast / cider
- sugar
- xylitol (birch sugar - if you want sweet cider)
How we do cider
It is very simple and cheap.
- We buy 20L of apple juice 100%
- Pour the juice into the fermenting container
- Add yeast and close everything for about 3-4 weeks
After 3 - 4 weeks:
- Add 3g of sugar (for the second fermentation) to the bottles + spoon of xylitol* if you want to have sweetened cider
- Fill each bottle with our cider from the container and close / capsize
* Xylitol is used for sweetening because yeast has no effect on it. Normal sugar would be converted into alcohol by yeast.
Now we have about 4 weeks to wait. After this period we can enjoy our own cider :)
Looks great
Thanks :)

Its easy to make, you will enjoy it :)
Looks super nice!
Will this become a clear cider? :)
I've brewed some perry ("cider" from pear juice) in the past but unfortunately our pear tree have not given as much fruit this year so I'm thinking about buying apples and brewing some cider instead. My recipe have some other stuff in it, such as a "clearing agent", but your recipe looks much better! :)
Yes, its clear. I used juice 100% apple from shop, so it was clear from beggining. It wasnt clear for short time during fermentation proces, but now its ok.
