Fortnite Log [Week 10]

Remote Learning

For the first time since starting, I’m physically separated from my gaming rig and won’t be pubstomping for several days (yea right…). That’s on excuse to slack on my focus, and this break actually lines up nicely with the start of Fall Skirmish by EPIC, the official pro tournament. So instead of discussing my own development, I thought I’d make a list of noted takeaways from the top of the top.

Take shots, not engagements

This is a bit of an extension of my typical “shoot ’n build” motto, but much more nuanced with fast editing, quick plays, and better repositioning. You’ll never find a player trading shots with another straight up, even if it seems that the main aggressor has a clear advantage. This really underscores the only momentary advantage one has when firing one an enemy. It only takes them a split second to react and even fire back with legitimate accuracy. As such, you’ll rarely see pro players shoot from the same position twice. Instead, they’ll re-edit walls and build outwards or over to keep the enemy slightly guessing where the next shot will come.

Shoot ’n Build. Build ’n Shoot.

Storm Placement

The movement of the storm is never a side thought to any pro. It is an active element that dictates how any given competitor should move and plan their next steps. I noticed that with any 30 seconds or so left before storm movement, pros are always considering their route and keep a focus one the storm’s next trajectory. This is all a lesson in itself.

Specific Loadouts

You’ll rarely see unexpected load outs in the endgame across players and teams. It usually falls into these slots: non-burst AR, P90 or similar light-bullet machine gun, shotgun (preferably double-barrel), shields, and utility/grenade launcher. Snipers are pretty rare as pro-play is much more focused on close-midrange combat and players are much less likely to hit quick scopes and long-range hits. I’ve been keeping close tabs on how exactly these loadouts are functioning in various situations.

I’ll be getting some nice Fortnite-filled viewing this week, keeping the mind sharp so the thumbs can catch up when I get back. Steem on!
