The fact that it was developed in the time when media publicity was absent is a testament to the fact that the game is really good, I for one didn't know about this game, infact never heard of it too, but the ways to know a good game is that aftermath effect it leaves on you.
you probably heard of / played / saw some of the many DOOM games and a film that came out since then. It was a pretty amazing time in gaming though because FPS was brand new back then.
