How to Make Fruit Water Kefir and Some Health BenefitssteemCreated with Sketch.

In the above video I show how I make fruit based water kefir using homegrown blueberries.

Kefir is another way one can replace the store bought sodas with a healthy, gut friendly, probiotic fizzy drink. Though I love my natural soda made from my own fermentation starter (see links below), I like water kefir just a bit better and it is a little bit quicker too.

Kefir grains come in two types: water or milk. I currently have both and use both. Kefir grains are similar to a kombucha scoby in that they are a symbiotic relationship of bacteria and yeast. Though the milk kefir has more health benefits than the water, the water kefir still packs a powerful health punch. Besides the benefits to the gut and digestive system, water kefir is also great for skin health, heart health, decreases the risk of diabetes and can even help to cure it, strengthens the immune system, and boosts energy, just to name a few.

One thing to note that once you have your kefir made the way you want with fruit or whatever, put a tight fitting lid on the jar and let sit for another day to really increase the fizziness. Keep in mind though, the longer you let it sit, the more it will digest the sugars and lose most or all sweetness. So test it as it goes to find the desire taste you want. One could also add REAL stevia to it to sweeten if they choose (not that white garbage that claims to be stevia).

So far my favorites are the raspberry and the pineapple. Those turned out amazing!

So get yourself some grains and get fermenting!

Gut health is soooo important! Because of that I recovered from RA.

That is great! I believe I read part of your story, I still need to catch up, but yes, several years ago, we took ourselves off of thyroid medications that we were both on for 15 years. Love being Pharma Free!

Hello @raincountry!
I liked your article so much that I mentioned and linked it in the one I just wrote about probiotic drinks. Check it out if you want, I hope you like it:

Thanks,

Thank you! I will check it out!

Thank you for reminding me! I need to buy some more water kefirs. I tried milk kefirs and I was really impartial to the end product hmmm. Right now it's the kombucha that's been keeping me going, with the warmer weather I have scobies galore!

Thanks for sharing this as gut health is so important to digestive and immune health, @raincountry

Absolutely! Thank you!

We make both milk kefir and water kefir. I drink the milk version as a smoothie with banana, dried apricot, pumpkin seeds and now Maca powder in the morning, and then water kefir later in the day as a pick me up.

I use the milk kefir as well, but I do not drink it, I add chia, hemp, flax, and poppy seeds to it and let it thicken in the fridge. Sometime I add sunflower seeds too. Then I eat it more like a yogurt, sometimes I add some fruit. I have actually allowed it to sit out longer too and get real thick on its own to the point I made cheese out of it, that was pretty good :)

Hey I had a wonderful hibiscus kefir at the mother Earth news fair in seven Springs PA last year. It was the first time I ever had kefir and I loved it. Thanks for sharing Mrs. Rain 💦👍🏻
