Yes, for now, the manager is a problem for the English team, even some of the previous names.
I see him as a manager who often makes mistakes in choosing the composition of players, even in some matches placing players in positions that should not be.
Relying too much on a few players, Southgate does not have a balanced team. But this is just my opinion.
For me, the 2006-2016 era was a pretty good period for England to go far in every tournament. But unfortunately, their potential is wasted, the most visible weakness is the selection of managers.

Eddie Howe deserves a try, if only Southgate had been sacked.
I'd love to see Eddie Howe become the next England manager but my understanding is that he's bought into the project at Newcastle and wouldn't want to leave. He'd be ideal though.
Another part of Southgate's problem is his fear of making substitutions or changing the team. We've been paralyzed by his inability to change matches.
