RE: The Keyword of the Week - MOUSE TRAP / Das Schlüsselwort der Woche - Mausefalle
And I wonder - what did this Charlie eat? Where did he get the food? I have mice stealing food from rabbits.

Hihi! It seems to be continued... ;-))
Good question - and where did this mouse leave its excrements after eating? Mice are not masters of hygiene, as far as I know.
You are absolutely right. Mice are rodents and their food passes the way of entry into the body and to the exit point very quickly. All rodents have no concept of hygiene in terms of defecation. Peas are pouring out of them constantly and everywhere. Therefore, we can see the places where mice walk on the poop left by them. And it's not very nice! And they don't eat the whole food, but gnaw it and a lot of waste remains. And it really pisses me off! I have sandy soil in my garden and this is one of the reasons for the large number of mice. And in the winter, they began to infiltrate the rabbit farm.
There are ways to drive away mice without poisoning them all. We have had good experience with peppermint oil. The mice can't stand the smell of the essential oils and keep their distance. But there were also only very few mice with us. And I don't know if such a method would also be suitable for a rabbit hutch....
How about two or three cats?
[edit]
Oh, I read: you already have some in action.
;-)
Yes, my cats catch mice in the garden in the summer. Cats can't catch mice in rabbit cages. But sometimes I still leave the cats to live on the farm. But then my wife and daughter scold me that I left cats to live there.
