Deutsch im Anschluß…

Once upon a time there was a clever little mouse called Charlie who lived in a big house. Charlie had a mission: he wanted to prove to the people in the house that mice are much more intelligent and clever than they thought.

One day, while Charlie was roaming around the house like this, he came across a mouse trap. He knew he had to be very careful, because some of his fellow mice had already disappeared forever after coming into contact with such a trap…

But Charlie was a clever guy and had a great idea. He decided to use the mouse trap in his turn to catch humans!

He crawled into the trap without triggering it and waited patiently. When one of the housemates, Mrs. Timid, came near, Charlie could hear her nervous gasp when she saw him in the trap. She was visibly worried and a little disgusted and wanted to dispose of the trap quickly.

But before Mrs. Timid could remove the trap, Charlie leapt out in one bound and landed in the middle of her lap. Mrs. Timid was deeply startled and froze into a pillar of salt, but Charlie just grinned at her and quickly hopped onto the floor before she could collect herself.

Charlie repeated this tactic often and each time he caught a different person in the house. The people became increasingly confused and frustrated because they just couldn't believe that a mouse could use a trap against them.

Eventually Charlie had enough of this game. He wanted to show the humans who was really the boss in the house. So he decided to execute an ultimate plan.

He crawled into the trap again and waited for someone to come. Finally, Mr. Timid entered the room to check the trap. When he looked in, Charlie jumped out as he often did and quickly ran into Mr. Timid's office opposite.

Once there, he ran criss-cross over the keyboard of the opened laptop, leaving a message on the screen: "Dear humans, I hope you now understand that we mice are indeed very clever. I will leave, but I will certainly return to teach you more lessons. Sincerely, Charlie."

The Timid family was so surprised and intrigued by the unexpected intelligence of the mouse that they decided to leave it alone. From that day on, the people in the house treated Charlie with deep respect. They even gave him his own treats and occasionally played with him when he passed by on his forays through the house.

And Charlie? He was satisfied that he had been able to show that mice were more than just noxious little creatures that humans were allowed to hunt and kill. He had vividly demonstrated that mice are clever and skilful animals that can use their wits just like humans.

From that day on, Charlie lived happily and freely as an equal in the house, as a valued and respected housemate. The people in the house had learned a lot from him.…

He hasn't been seen for a while, but we had a Charlie like that too ;-)) / Er wurde schon länger nicht mehr gesehen, aber auch wir hatten so einen Charlie ;-))

Deutsche Version:

@weisser-rabe I was amazed to see the cleverness of Charlie the mouse, it felt like I was watching a cartoon movie. Very funny and beautiful story, and its fast paced.
thanks for sharing

Yes, I think every life is precious. We repress that all too often...

Ja, ich denke, jedes Leben ist wertvoll. Wir verdrängen das nur zu gerne...

And I wonder - what did this Charlie eat? Where did he get the food? I have mice stealing food from rabbits.

Hihi! It seems to be continued... ;-))

Good question - and where did this mouse leave its excrements after eating? Mice are not masters of hygiene, as far as I know.

You are absolutely right. Mice are rodents and their food passes the way of entry into the body and to the exit point very quickly. All rodents have no concept of hygiene in terms of defecation. Peas are pouring out of them constantly and everywhere. Therefore, we can see the places where mice walk on the poop left by them. And it's not very nice! And they don't eat the whole food, but gnaw it and a lot of waste remains. And it really pisses me off! I have sandy soil in my garden and this is one of the reasons for the large number of mice. And in the winter, they began to infiltrate the rabbit farm.

There are ways to drive away mice without poisoning them all. We have had good experience with peppermint oil. The mice can't stand the smell of the essential oils and keep their distance. But there were also only very few mice with us. And I don't know if such a method would also be suitable for a rabbit hutch....
How about two or three cats?

Oh, I read: you already have some in action.

Yes, my cats catch mice in the garden in the summer. Cats can't catch mice in rabbit cages. But sometimes I still leave the cats to live on the farm. But then my wife and daughter scold me that I left cats to live there.
