ᔕᑕᗷ creating a Community: dos and don'ts

 

Hello my dear Steemians,

 

Today I wanted to share my opinion as a response to the post of @wakeupkitty:

The post is about a user who created a community, once someone creates a community he automatically becomes an Admin and often if a person does it that means person has an idea and want to develop it like a person is starting up a business, we do eveyrhting in our hands to make it successful, isn't it?

 

Steemit before split 2017

 

I joined Steemit in 2017 and it was one year after it was created. That time there were no communities and only tags, usually first 5 tags were visible. Users on Steemit looked for appropriate tags like #photography #art or #reading and ect.

On one hand it was easy because our posts could vary, one day we write about movies, another day we just post a beautiful photo so we use appropriate tag. That is why many were using tags in order to order their posts and to be easily found. All the posts were visible in blog and it was no separation within account as "blog" and "post". Nowadays we know that if we do not re-blog our own posts then it is not visible

I must say that in the past people used tags very carefully and correct and it was easy to find posts with appropriate subjects simply going to that tag, it was also easy for curators to find posts and support users.

 

Birth of Communities on Steemit

 

Sometimes I believe in 2020 it was the time when the Witnesses and leaders of old Steemit decided to create Communities. The idea was to create a place where users with the same idea and hobbies could come together. Usually the admins were people with experience of being on Stemeit for some time and often they were very well known users. Many users then started posting in a certain communities and some people who did not feel close to any of the topics felt alone.

As to me, I did not like birth of communities because it was time when we were more separated rather than united.

Shortly after Steem and HIve split and majority of users are gone to Hive, others were randomly posting and we knew few artists therefore, while speaking to Xpilar he decided to create a community and to support them. That is why many artists joined WOX and as you might know WOX is there since 2020.

The aim of our community was:

• to bring creative people in one place
• to support them with WOX trial but also with our moderators, active users that time who stayed and who were happy to daily be around for others and to tell the truth the core people still there since

 

Communities now, why one creates communities

 

I believe since Steemit was owned by Justin and we have Steemitblog with its activities to support users, one of them is Engagement challenges these were running until two seasons back. The whole process of getting support was to apply from community and that was the time when:

• users started creating communities often some were pop up just before the application process for Engagement challenges

• if community was selected then with the help of the Steemit support the community account was growing a bit for 6 weeks

• it was time when there were many new subscribers and posts

• after Engagement challenge was over the community activities was dramatically reduced and often the admins closed down accounts

• another motivation for creating a community was "Booming Support" that was also an Initiative that any community could apply for nad nowadays the communities that have Booming support they still exist but we also witnessed how the other communities where Booming support was withdrawn or after a new selection process has not been selected those communities also slowly disappeared

 

Creating community: dos and don'ts

 

Creating community is something like opening own business, what you should have:

• need:why do you think that the community should be created

• the goal: why you want to create community

• team: there should be at least few people around who share the same opinion, the same wish and dream that you want to fulfil

• responsibilities: you should feel responsible to keep the community active, to communicate with subscribed users, to make everything to make it successful and not to close down at first difficult situation

You should not create a community if:

• you do it in order to get support of Curators and expect a quick growth

• you have no interest in keeping the users interested and engaged

Also, do not create many communities because you will not be able to concentrate on them and also your followers will not be able to follow you. Be serious about your responsibilities and obligation in front of users who you brought together.

If users feel that you do not care they will leave your community and also you will not be able to gain their trust again.
