Introduction

We recently did a mini contest where we challenged you to suggest contest ideas for our next contest. We are happy to see you friends respond with really great ideas that we very well appreciate. While we could not pick any out of the few you presented, we are pleased to inform you that we will give out consolation prizes for all the entries. Additionally, we are going to pick ideas from those entries in the nearest future. When we do, we will still inform the person and give further rewards to them.

We thought deeply about the recent contest by @shortsegments where he encouraged engagements and making real connections through comments. We as a community always encouraged our members to take commenting serious since it is a crucial step towards great friendships and connections. However, we decided that our next contest should be an interesting subject of personal nature which everyone would want to talk about. Then we will also require serious engagement as part of the contest. To that effect, we wish to announce this very contest entitled Inside Life.
divider2.jpg

Inside Life - The Contest.

When we were young or younger, we had dreams of what we wanted to become when we grow up. Many said they would become pilots, engineers, nurses and many many other things. Unfortunately, few people grew up or have grown up to successfully pursue their childhood career dreams. The majority of us grew up and found ourselves into a completely different career or are currently pursuing a different career from what we had wished as kids. What happened along the way? We want to know.

Hello, i'm really delighted in participating in this contest, based on the aforementioned by @steemalive, i bring to you my childhood career path.

When i was a kid, i could remember when i gather with my friends and then in our discussion, we will be talking about our career path. i told my friends that i will be a medical doctor, lolz, doctor that doesn't know how to read and write then. I said this because all my friends choose the path of becoming a doctor, I had to join them. This was during my primary school days, when i entered secondary school level, i still worked with that goal of becoming a medical doctor. Anytime my friends sees they call me young doctor and this gives me joy. So i studied hard, like i said earlier, i don't know anything, how to read i don't know even to write self na war. So i had to struggle in other to become a medical doctor.

I hated acts department because I'm not good in oral, so this made me to choose science during my senior secondary school days.

one day I met a friend of mine, He was writing some programing language, programming his website with javascript, then i didn't know its called javascript . I made some research and found out that it is all about computer and languages. So I had to key into it, it became interesting and then the passion to become a web programmer(front-end developer) started developing inside me. i had to change the dream which i have been nursing for many years today from doctor to a computer scientist. Today I'm still on the pursuit of being a computer scientist, I'm currently level 100 studying computer sci. I believe before i would finish the course i will become the person i ought to be in life. Though in nigerian institutions today, Lecturers don't basically teach you how to write a program. So i go extra miles in research and learning just to become a professional website developer.

Thanks for reading

@marydexplorer, it was tough/uneasy situation that even made me unbalance on my first career path, i choose the path of being a medical doctor because almost all my friends are into that path. It was quite unfortunate that they didn't motivate me. The career that motivated me was that of programming. I dream to become to become a professional programmer and i'm into because of the passion i have for it.

Being a doctor back then was the common trend while in school. I don't really know how easy we thought being a doctor could be. You wouldn't blame us for being intrigued by the thought of seeing ourselves in the shoes of a doctor at that little age whereas the reality is that being a doctor requires utmost concentration and reading.

Becky.

Yeah, back then in school almost all of them were in this career path, it was funny when i received a call from a friend aspiring to be a doctor back then in secondary school days, i asked him about his later career path he told me that he's currently studying statistics, lolz. You know, Being a medical doctor requires more of reading and concentration.

#steemitconnection

@steemalive this is my entry

When I was much younger, I can't really remember what exact age I was then so I told my mom how much I loved music and that I Would love to be a musician when I grow up. My mom replied to me saying, "I love your dreams my girl" she said that while looking into my eyes , "but we don't have enough money to sponsor you on that" she said. I asked her what about my uncle, uncle O. T your brother, he's wealthy so he can sponsor me. My mom agreed with me this time because she wanted to end the discussion as I was begining to bother her with so much questions.

Today, I am a science lab Technologist, currently a student of Food science and Technology soon to be a graduate by 2021 by the special grace of God. I am also a caterer but in all these I didn't attend any music class or school not because I don't want to but because I see music as my destiny not as my career even if I obtain all the certificates in the world I will surely go for my music training even if nobody sponsors me with finances. I will make money through my career to help myself.

Currently I am undergoing some vocal trainings in my church choir ever since i joined the choir in my new church I've come to realize that there's more to music(gospel) than just being a career or hobby. My family church was not helping my music life until I was old enough to take decisions for my self. So I made the decision of joining my own church which is RHYTHM 5 INTERATIONAL this was where I came to understand that my passion for music(gospel) was not just a mere thing it was deeper than I thougt and it must surely come to fulfillment it might take a while but it must manifest. I belove in myself and I believe in my destiny.

@marydexplorer. Powerful story and strong love for music. We would love to hear you sing someday. Your passion for music is undoubted strong and we hope you will achieve your dreams as a successful musician. You also have done well as a food technologist and lab Scientist. Keep up your dreams and work hard to achieve the. We wish you the very best!!

I believe is that if you have deep passion for music, no matter how long it takes, one day you'd be drawn to that musical path. It all starts from there. Most great musicians today had a background of first singing in the church.

Your present course is beautiful one but then I believe you'll not relent in pursuing your dreams and one day that manifestation you've always wanted will happen.

 4 years ago (edited)

Definitely, He will be proud of you.
Thank you very much

Greetings. Thank you @steemalive for this wonderful opportunity to share my childhood experience with this amazing platform.
Growing up I had always thought of being am air hostess or a captain. Or i own a business. (Like a CEO). I had never relented my efforts. I was excellent in arts and I did not know how I would become a captain without knowing any subject in the science department.
Throughout the whole time. I prayed and wished I got into one of these jobs. But listening to some.Entreprenuerial seminars, I realised that I could also be a self employed human. So I started working on trying to be a self employed person. Training myself to have managarial skills. I had to battle between my artistic skills and social science. It waa not as easy. But it was worthwhile.
Today.. I am soon to graduate with a degree in Maritime Transport. (Not as a captain. But close). Again I own a growing company.(A pressing). I have not quite drifted from my dream and I thank God he is leading me on the right path.
Thanks for reading

Am so delightful to be a partaker of this contest. Thank you very much for this great opportunity given to me.

Oh yes, many have wanted to become one thing or the order but because of how life treat them they end up becoming another thing out of what they desire. Looking into my own life, right from my childhood, to be an Accountant has been my dream. I remembered when I do sit out with my friends and discuss what we want to be in future. I was the only one that want to be an Accountant among my friends. As of my secondary school, we were asked what we want to be in future, everybody said theirs, and i also say mine, my friends started discouraging me not to go on with decision of becoming an Accountant, all because they hate art as an department, saying Art Department speaks a lot grammer, and why they are trying to keep my mind away from my career dream is because they want to be a doctor, nurse, etc all in science, but am the type that hate science so much, i dont just like it because of medicine part of it.

So, they started putting fears in me, that those that works in bank as an Accountant are not paid well and they risky their lives. A friend brought up a story of how, she went to bank to pay in some money, getting there, she saw arm robbers with gun pointing it at people's in the bank, telling them not to move and they should bring out all the monies and phone they have. So after hearing all that, I became afraid of pursuing my dreams, I became worried, in fact I totally change my mind not to go further with my decision again.

On a faithful day, I went to my principal office, to discuss about my fear of becoming an Accountant, to the glory of God, God used him to encourage me and he told me not to listen to anyone based on what I want to be in future, I key in to his words and sit up again. When my friends will come again to discourage me, I will tell them When I Reach To That Breech I will Know How To Cross It, that makes them to stop disturbing me of that.

On the day of my final year exam in my secondary school I meant a new friend, who also have passion to be an Accountant. She is very intelligent in calculation, we both became friends. She helped me to know more in calculation, from her I also learnt how to make some research based on my career, and know more about Accounting, that only helped me to put more interest to become an Accountant.

After my exam, I moved to another city called Abuja, there I got admission and Accounting was given to me, which is what I wanted. Due to the system of my school I do research and also read on my own since I don't attend any lecture. To God be the Glory, am still pursuing it and hopefully in next 1year now I will be having my certificate as an Accountant.

Thanks for the time in reading.

👏👏👏 amazing. You shivered at the beginning but God sent a helper to you. Then you stood your grounds. You see what some friends can descourage you until you destroy your future. Chaii. And then they pursue their careers ehh. Mum. Hold on tight to your passion.. I support you. 💪💪💪

My dear @craxywriter, that is why they say mind the kind of people you follow. When you meet the wrong people, their intention towards you is to destory you. I really learnt my lesson from that, it help me to stand on my decisions.

Hahah thank God, i recieve a helper. Determinatio matters in everything.

#steemconnection #nigeria #steemalive #onepercent

Now this is one big case of peer pressure which partly led to inferiority complex. Hearing those stories and reasons to not take a particular decision from those you regard as friends would obviously have a massive effect. But most times it could be said that a career path pursued just for the name of it or how it might make you feel and not how you feel towards/ about it might end up in premium tears except you get lucky. I've got lots of friends who ventured into a career path different from their original Intention as a result of friends and this took a huge toll on them, regression in performances right from secondary school.

I'm happy you finally found your balance and took the right decision.
#steemitconnection

doppley

Exactly @doppley, this is more reason most people suffer today, because they listen to what people say to them, they have been discourage by the influence of people, they fail to listen to themselves and find who they really are, that it why after listening to people nd friend they end up suffering while them that discourage prosper.

I really learnt a lot from them, because hard it been followed them, my life could have been meaningless. But am still thanking God helping me.

#steemconnection

Hahahaha, you are right dear, as of tgen science department always see art department as a grammatic department. But to me, it wasnt so, every can speak grammer.

Hmmmm, the pressure isnt funny ooo, thank God they did not give me high blood pressure. All i know is that, what ever God have destiny one to be surly that we be no matter how hard people try to pull down. That is it.

Greetings to you all, It is my pleasure to participate in this contest. It is sometimes disheartening to have dreams and aspirations without realising them. But all the same, one must move on to survive since there are other arrays of options available which one can also choose from and still fit in. Please patiently go through my lot in life in terms of my childhood dreams and what later turned out to be my actualised dream.
Actually, I had dreamed of becoming a nurse. I really put in my best to see to it that I actualise my dream for instance, I did sciences in my senior secondary school and cleared my papers in my SSCE. Then I began the process of admission into the school of nursing. I sat for the entrance exams in two schools and for up to 3 years without gaining entrance. I usually passed the exams and even go for the interviews, but at the end of it all, no admission. Then I changed my mind and decided to settle for Accountancy. Well I still did very well because I graduated with distinction. And I worked in some establishments as accountant with my certificate. I had also wanted to become a Chattered accountant by seating for the professional exams. But up till now I have not been able to do that. But since there is still life, there is still hope. I still keep hope alive.
Thank you @steemalive for this contest and thank you all for going through my post.

@ngoenyi it's really painful whenever you seat for high institution entrance exams you will be turned down.
You had a beautiful dream of becoming a nurse but situations couldn't permit that.

But I'm happy for you that you graduated with distinction you can always get a good career.

@ngoenyi it's really painful to watch your dream chatter before your eyes. But I am happy with your pushfulness. I am sure you will find something more befitting than the nurse profession. 👏👏 I congratulate your hope and courage. I hope I hve such heart.

Thank you dear @craxywriter. I appreciate you encouragement. Life must go on. There is nothing as good as being a boss of ur own. Infact, this covid-19 era has proved that to be true. So many people lost their job and some people in medical profession risjed their lives to save some while some even lost their lives. But i am keeping safe. All to the glory of the most high. So, i don't even feel disappointed at all now because when ons door closes, another one opens. Thank you for going through my post

Growing up as a child I always had the apt desire to be associated with the career path accounting. I would usually call myself a banker, an accountant and anything of such within the financial field. I held this desire and worked towards the career path up until my junior secondary school 3. It came the time I was to pick my department and suddenly I felt all my life had been a lie. I didn't know which to pick. My decision alternated between science and commercial, I had hoped the aptitude tests for departments would have brought light to my plight but all my teachers and counsellors could say was " you can pick any department of your choice, you did so well in the exams". Now this would normally be classified as good news but it only compounded my problems further as I had judgement disparities.

It was so bad that when the time came to get textbooks. At the bookshop I was unsure, I held the list of books for the two departments in my hand and stared at my dad, then at the book-keeper. I couldn't decide. My Dad was utterly surprised he expected to just get the list of books for the commercial department and go home but seeing me in such state he was worried. He drove me back to school on a Saturday to see my counsellor. After a thorough session, I found out the problem. My brother had always been in the science department and we've never been apart so I feared my decision to pick a different course would only split us.

However I got over this with help from the counsellor and went ahead with my long desired career path "Accounting". I've been doing so well in this field and to the glory of God I was able to gain admission to the University of Lagos to study accounting at first trial. I'm currently in my first year and so far it's been so good.

Glad I could make my post in time for the contest :)

¡Hola a Todos!

Tu comentario me hizo recordar muchas cosas agradables.

Muchas gracias amigo @doppley

As a growing child I found myself attracted to watching the Cable News Network popularly known as CNN. I envied the way Journalist Anderson Becky talked about the on goings in United States and the world at large. In the aspect of profession she became my role model and still is.

I find the concept of Journalism fascinating because it enables you give out information to the people which is a great perquisite in the world today. As the day goes by I find myself unconsciously exploring journalism and putting myself in the shoes of the Journalists. I communicate to the people on occasional basis and exchange information about things happening around.

Although presently I'm studying Banking and Finance in the university and I'm even in my final year. I chose to accept that career path because of the situation we have in our country Nigeria.
If I continue waiting for when I'll get admission to study Mass communication in the university of my choice, I'm looking at wasting five years minimum at home.

Nevertheless I haven't relented from developing myself in both my career and dream path. They can come in handy at anytime in the sense that I could focus my journalism on the financial sector.
Having a background knowledge of financial sector, it's Instruments etc I can be able to deliver more information about it to the general public.

@beckie96830... You will have an additional advantage for training yourself to both. When you become accustomed to them you will be fluent in both banking dealings and also reporting on latest news. You are a strong Lady. 👏👏👏
