Can you imagine that it is 70 years ago when the first organ transplant was performed and it was kidney transplant. Nowadays, when we hear that someone had an organ transplant it is not something scary and we know that it saved life of someone.
When something happens to our family members especially to our children we all make a wish: "I will do anything to save my baby". Often we are ready to give any part of our body.
Being a surgeon I know the cases when parents or other fmaily members donated for example a part of their liver, we know that liver grown back and even giving a part of it people can recover. Having two kidneys it is almost normal when someone gives one kidney provided he has good health.
Have you heard about Selena Gomez, famous American actress and singer, she was very young when she started to play in Disney movies and later she started to sing, so she is an actress and a singer. Despite of having such great chances to enjoy great life she had a fate of being ill with Lupus that is autoimmune diseases that is triggering our immune system but that is attacking our own body by mistake. Often kidneys suffer and people develop kidney failure. Often they need dialyses and treatment would be kidney transplant.
*In the case of Selena, approximately 7 years ago when her condition deteriorated her friend donated her one kidney and Selena made it publicly in her Instagram and I can imagine that was a great gift that someone could gift someone. Hopefully Selena will have long life with this gift.
In Western world it is legal such waiting list for organ transplant. In many medical system we have Transplant teams who are having oncalls too, that means team of Surgeons, Anaesthetists, scrub nurses are oncall 24 hourly, so they are ready to get on their trips, usually there is a helicopter that can bring the team to any side of the country in short time and the team will get a transplant the same happens to the patients. They usually also should be ready to get phone calls any time to be ready for operation.
In Western world it is common that the advertisement for organ donation and encouraging people to get donor passport. There are many people who still very resistant to sign up and get a donor status. It is on one hand weird because people think if they do that then they may die.
In many poor countries there is such business when people will be offered some money and their organs will be removed for sale. They usually pay less than the money that they get later. There are some illegal traders with their doctors who do such job with high risk of danger for the health of donors. Despite of that people still agree for such operation.
It is very sensible and difficult question and in my opinion everyone have to think and decide for them what they would like to decide and every opinion should be respected.
I would like to invite @lusciouslucy, @maryemolinet and @jes88 to this contest
In my country, it is legal; there are registered organizations such as eye and kidney donation organizations. There are some organizations that support patients in searching for donors.
Yes, that is good to have legal system that works and helps people, eveyrhting illegal will increase danger to health and also criminal activities. Thanks you for reading :)
You are welcome.
Well for me I don't really see anything wrong in organ donations as for my country it is very legal
Yes, that is good, it will reduce chances for criminal people to get involved into it.
