RE: You Cross Post... "Me, Unfollow"

in OCD5 years ago (edited)

It's a bot run by this Japanese dude:

imagen.png

He runs a Discord server to preach his cult "The Old Path" and has multiple accounts with which he spams thousands of people. I've talked to him on Discord and told him to stop spamming my comment sections and he basically said that he didn't care if he was annoying me. He said that his goal was to reach as many people as possible regardless of the means used, and that he would continue to spam all comment sections as much as he liked.

So, you won't reach him by sending comments, or downvoting or anything. Just mute all of these accounts whenever they comment on your posts. That way these comments will be hidden and greyed out whenver they pop up.

edit: And no, he doesn't read your post, the comments are automated, sent to thousands of people every day from multiple accounts.

Sort:

I'm not muting him because I want to downvote him. He really has a bad startegy. Getting in people's hearts by force won't win him too many devotes for his Old Path. It's Steemit's fault, that we have plagiarists, spammers and abusers, for not setting up some rules right from the beginning

I don't know if it's too late or not, but maybe if the Witnesses agreed, someone could code up a softfork for allowing for disabling spam accounts. (Only for stuff like millions of carbon copy posts coming from varying accounts.)

I don't know either, but it would be useful.

This won't happen. There is a strong anti-censorship attitude among witnesses and the creator of these accounts can simply create more and more. They would have to implement an expansible centralised spam list that would disable any commenter that the witnesses don't like. This would be dangerous for the ability of people to express themselves freely and is something that the witnesses have talked about and rejected.

If it will be reconsidered in the future, maybe in the far far future, but for now this is not an option.

For now, our best solution is in the front ends. Mute and downvote and let the front ends hide the comments.

There is already a set of centralised spam lists, since 2018, which is themarkymark's buildawhale spam list. Many people already complain about it but it's not applied directly to the blockchain but to front ends. If someone is in that list, they simply don't show up in the comments' section when they comment, although they are indeed registered in the blockchain.

If you mute him, he stays hidden in your posts. That way people don't see him but he stays at the bottom of your comments. If you don't mute him, if you forget to downvote him, he will be hiding legitimate comments from legitimate readers. Steempeak implemented the mute feature for exactly this purpose.

You will be able to see his comments even if you mute them, although they will be greyed out, and if you expand them, you will still be able to downvote them. Doubly good.

Will take that into account. Luckily I don't have too much comments on my posts that he can shadow.

I started muting all bot accounts for this purpose. I don't always get comments, but I do want to encourage legitimate conversation on my posts. :))

I will probably do as well, but for now I feel like flagging it more. I guess there are some frustrations there that need to be burned through this flagging :))

My likey. Fluffy with attitude.
