Hello my dear Steemians,

I think this holiday we have done a lot, we worked, travelled around, visited family members, also have done some repair for our car through the local representatives of company, but that was a long and stressful experience, maybe I will tell you a bit later on.

Another highlight that I am really satisfied with was dental treatment and if you want to know why, then here it is a story.

While in UK one of the thing that I really, really miss is dental treatment. I think living in Germany we accept it as it should be and we are not value the service and such easy access. If you are such person then I would like you to try how it is in UK.

My odyssey with dental treatment in Scotland

In UK dental treatment is very difficult to access due to long waiting time but also many dental clinics have no dentists like my one. In December 23, just before Christmas time one of my tooth with filling that was done few years ago was broken on one side, therefore, the filling with that part of the wall of tooth needed to come out. The dentist in that clinic was due to go to maternity leave and there was no replacement. Despite of my plea to do a treatment on the same day I was told that it is too busy and it will be temporarily one and then it will be an appointment for permanent one later.

When I approach the receptionist for next appointment she told me that there is nothing till 17th of May 24!!! That means 5 months after my temporarily filling. I thought, okay if the temporarily filling will stay in place then no matter, I can wait. When time start approaching May I received a message on phone that said that my appointment is cancelled and someone will get in touch in couple of weeks.

I did not receive any phone call or messages but when after multiple attempts I could reach the dental clinic I was told that the nearest appointment will be in 17th of July and as it is a new Dentist the appointment is only to check my teeth and not for treatment, when I asked if I can make an appointment for treatment I was told that there is no date till October 2024 and also that they can not make appointment until the Dentist seen me.

I have never thought that temporarily filling should stay for more than 10 months, the guideline says that it should be removed in 6 months as it will start fall apart.

My odyssey with dental treatment in Muenster, Germany

While on holiday we usually have sweets, cakes and soft drinks which all not good for our teeth, that is also I noticed, when I felt some sensitivity to cold, sweet there where I had a filling, knowing how long it takes to see a dentist in Scotland, I decided to go to the nearest dental clinic close to our home and about 15 minutes by foot.

I was pleased to know that I was able to get an appointment in 2 days. My tooth was treated and everything was done within an hour. After that I decided to ask if they can replace my temporarily one that is there for 7 months and was nicely surprised to receive an appointment for the next day. The dentist was very accurate and gentle while working on fragile tooth and at the end it looked absolutely awesome. The treatment took this time less than an hour.

Dental treatment: where to go?

For me, now it is clear where I will go for dental care, of course, in Germany. Benefits:

  • rapid access: couple of days versus to 7+ months
  • the quality of treatment
  • in Scotland, dental treatment I paid all costs myself, although root canal treatment is free but if you wish to have white feeling and not amalgam then you have to pay for root canal and anaesthesia for everything as private treatment.

If I compare my costs for the same treatment in Scotland that was £350-£400 for one tooth treatment, then in Germany I paid only a half for 2 teeth.

I am very glad that I sorted that and only can advise this wonderful dental clinic. Here you can have a pick into the clinic.

Hope you are feeling good

Yes, definitely feeling better need to be more careful with sweets next time :)

Wow, this was interesting @stef1. Why do you think the German system is half the cost and has faster access than the UK system?

I think it is more competitive here in Germany, more dental services and also there are more companies that provide dental clinics with materials. In Germany people have medical insurance and contribute monthly. In UK there is not such a service and considered to be NHS but it has low budget. I am glad that I have such opportunity to have treatment here.
