Healthy cooking: Borscht or cabbage shoup
Hello my dear Steemians,
I am these days on night shifts and it is a bit busy, therefore, I was not able to catch up with my "Inktober" drawing that is why I wanted to present for your another work of mine and this is that I cooked the day before yesterday, that is my favourite type of soup and made of many different vegetables that is traditional soup that is popular in East Europe.
First let's see what ingredients you can use:
- I prefer beef and usually cut it in very small pieces, my hubby does not like such tiny pieces but it makes it easy and quicker to cook
Here are the vegetables that I usually use:
- white cabbage
- couple of carrots
- couple of potatoes
- usually two red beet
- one onion
- red pepper
- few garlic cloves
After the meat is fried in a wok with spices, salt and some onion I then place it in a pot, add some water and cabbage and then red beet, all those vegetables are cut into small pieces then they need 40 minutes to cook.
Carrots and potatoes are also cut into pieces.
*Onion and garlic is chopped into small cubes and will be added only last so that their taste still remain fresh.
After 15 minutes of cooking carrots, pepper, potatoes, onion and garlic your soup is ready.
Here how your soup is looking, it is very red and delicious.
I cook a lot, almost on a daily basis and I have to admit, I never cooked any red beet.
We always put it in salads, shredded and raw. I read it is quite good for the blood sugar levels and also has other health benefits.
Food made at home is the best! :)
it is also my favourite ingredient of salad, red beet with herring is delicious, a little bit of work but it is worth to spend time :)
Oh, well, with herring... another combination I never tried :)
A popular Bulgarian salad is called "Fitness salad" or "Vitamin Salad" is just made by shredded red beef, carrots, apples, walnuts and sometimes few pinches of orange bits and rocket salad leaves with fresh lemon juice and virgin olive oil.
It goes so well with Rakia, the most popular hard drink in Bulgaria, made by grapes. :)))
Ich liebe Suppen und werde dieses Rezept ausprobieren. Suppen, die ich gern koche basieren auf Hülsenfrüchten. Sehr gut ist bisher auch meine Hokkaidosuppe angekommen.
Hallo Jochen, bitte entschuldige meine verspätete Antwort.
I also prepare my own food, for me and 3 other people. Cooking is a fun, relaxing activity.

Yes, cooking for me is good because I know what comes into the food and also you always can vary depending on your taste. Thank you for visiting my post :)
Yes, we know the quality of the things we consume. :D
Thank you for support @chant :)
Time to make amazing meals 🤤
I am already salivating because I am so sure that your soup will be so delicious. You are a great chef even with looking at this few pictures
I am glad that you like the type of this soup, it was delicious :)
@stef1, cool). This dish is similar to our Ukrainian borscht). Only we add meat and beans.
I think in Europe many things are similar, just some variation depending on the taste :)
If this would be a riddle, a guessing game: 'What dish I gonna make of this?' - I could win the jackpot... of course only if I would not come with my comment so late :-)
Your soup is looking very delicious.
