Humming Birds and Sugar Cane ON THE HOMESTEAD

This summer we placed a humming bird feeder on our front deck. My neighbor had one and it was obvious the entertainment it brings would be enjoyed by all. The birds will dance and fight and play all around it and we all love watching the show.

My only two recommendations are to make sure you get a glass container. Some cheaper hummingbird feeders are all plastic and will warp and leak. And Second, make sure you get one with stands so that the birds can land and feed that way. I'm told you will get more activity around a feeder where they can land and drink.

Other than that, maybe consider getting two. We learned that with just one, they fight over the feeder sometimes. And so with two feeders, they may not squabble so much over access to one.

Also, I got my first taste of sugar cane this week. It's not there yet. Almost...but close. I may choose to wait until mid October to harvest. We will keep you updated!

LOL. One of the many reasons I love @mericanhomestead

LOL! You win comment of the year!

Ohh this is so cute seeing the birds fly around great recommendation i liked it a lot maybe try it as well thanks!

Yeah you will love it. I will get another one for next summer.

If you have a bit of space for a large sized pot or even a small space of dirt in front of your porch, plant some morning glories or some foxtails or other equally pretty flowers. You'll attract a lot more hummingbirds and not have to fill a feeder or clean one. We have a large number of hummingbirds visit us year round (tropical country). They have become so used to us being around that they come and visit my husband while he is having coffee on the porch. We have found several hummingbird nests in our hedge. They have been using the hair that our dogs shed to build them.

Very cool! We are going to up the landscaping efforts on our homestead in the coming years. We have spent so much time on infrastructure that beautification and landscaping haven't really developed here yet.

I get that. Somethings are more important than pretty flowers. The first years we didn't do any landscaping. Now we are starting to add a few things. Before we were adding trees and plants and creating an edible forest.

She is absolutely gorgeous.
What a great buy the hummingbird feeder was.

Yeah, I want to buy more!

I love hummingbirds, their tininess, moxie and beauty. Thanks for the share @mericanhomestead. Hope all is wonderful on the farm today.

Why were you banned on YouTube? 😯

They don't like people who eat animals. One of my videos of us butchering a cow was flagged. We eat our animals, we own guns, we love our God and our country and they can't stand that.

Sharing to show some homestead joy!

Great vid. Thanks for posting the great content!

Zac....was the egyptian spinach the lettuce that lasts all summer and doesn't bolt with the heat?

I saw "the red juice" in your hummingbird feeder. I have several feeders and that stuff can get expensive. It's also full of dyes and crap. I make my own nectar that the birds really seem to like. I left one red dye one up and given the choice, they left that one alone.

Here's my crazy simple formula: 1 cup sugar, 4 cups water. I bring it up to heat to dissolve the sugar, let cool and presto, you've got a winner.

I've been following you for years now. I was wondering if you have any future plans on a Season 4?
