Real estate in Oslo does seem like a tough and almost pointless investment here, but everyone just does it. I just rent, moving here a few years ago. It's even worse in NYC where I am from.

I've been owning since the early 2000s, but with the recent government regulations, it's impossible anymore. (Funny thing is, my monthly rent is high enough to cover a mortgage for the same type of apartment, but banks aren't allowed to grant a loan to me).
On the other hand, I'm actually kind of looking forward to living with the financial freedom of having a solid bank account balance!
