INTRO: Design, Tech, Underground music.

HeyHo it’s Gene and this is my introduction post!

Because what better way there is to start writing for Steemit other than introducing myself right?

I’m from Malaysia, more specifically in the state of Malacca, but no longer live there due to dat adult work life thing, still go back occasionally to see my family and regain my sanity from living in the capital state. To summarize it, half of Malacca is a tourist attraction known for its history and culture. It’s a good place to retire, but most importantly, it’s a paradise for food exploration and street photography. So if you're into those activities, do list the town as a place to visit in the near future!

Professionally, I work in the creative field. Studied designing in interactive media (user interface and experience design), and now mainly producing visual media. I wasn’t into numbers as the typical Asian kid (yes I’m Asian and I’m bad in math), but creative works are something I’ve been into for as long as I’ve learned how to use the pencil. Yes it’s true that every kid draws, but making a living out of them is generally seen by Asian parents as unprofitable and a waste of time, at least back in the days. Luckily for me, my parents were very supportive of the idea of me being in the creative industry. Eventually, I transitioned from drawing to video editing from curiosity and boredom from high school education. So that whole visual media production thing, yeah I was into them for a long time as well. Even though I no longer work on user interface and experience design as much as I did, I still contribute to the community and love talking about them and design as a whole, and yes it is a topic that I would love to discuss here!

Outside of that, tech is something I enjoy discussing as well. If I were to be honest about tech topics, the smartphone industry is something I read up and watch frequently (and also a guilty pleasure), here’s why: Consumers are upgrading their smartphones much more often than they used to in comparison to dumbphones, it’s extremely competitive and every company is pushing something new each year for each versions of their flagship product. Major trends are exciting, but the little things under the hood, and technological design is some topics you would see here as well.

You can expect some posts on Synthwave music and aesthetic from me, perhaps some interesting underground music occasionally as well. The whole genre Synthwave and its subgrenes is what I listen to at work or on a long trip. Think modern replication of 80s synth music, yeah that’s about it.
